@stux that cat got so overwhelmed it didn't know if it wanted to be chill, bolt, or bathe.

@wchr So, what then? Does everybody just switch to LibreOffice on Linux machines? I assume the same holds for Google as well (by all logic, it should). Can people even use Windows anymore given the amount of telemtry data that's sent? Does the DSK outline alternatives, or is everyone just under an obligation to figure it out? How will enforcement work out -- that's ... basically every German company, organisation, volunteer organisation, school...

@coolowl @wchr Oh yes. I am quite familiar with that one. And later decisions against Google Workspace and Microsoft that have been banned from French schools: https://www.uctoday.com/unified-communications/office-365-and-google-workspace-banned-from-french-schools/

@maop @nixCraft It still looks insanely awkward, especially for people with limited mobility. That does explain the contouring towards the left though.

@simonzerafaHah. @apps added some new features (some version of quote replies, and for the testing, the ability to write in markdown). I was curious if they worked on my phone, and they don't. That said, I think it's conditional on the instance/service I'm connected to.

@thenewoilMore reason we need to stop trusting apps with our health and sensitive data. Even if the app isn't dodgy, Republicans are, and they will weaponize data at every turn to punish and subjugate women. @paprikapink

@Teri_KanefieldSo the effective takeaway I'm getting is that Fox News is a noise generator for TFG and the right?

@tekThis is my father's favorite movie and I was forced to watch it a dozen times throughout my childhood. There was even a period where it felt kind of cringe to watch because Sean Connery's Russian accent was so not good and I was old enough to realize that fact.

@laurenI liken LLMs as a first draft tool, or occasionally a sounding board that also happens to summarize well. You can get some utility out of these tools, but it should always an iterative process, and just like any other nascent assistive tech, you should verify every time.Sometimes, it will get enough of an outline or skeleton together that I can take it, build on that, iterate with the LLM and make it my own. That will saves me quite a bit of time -- getting initial words/thoughts on paper can be a huge blocker. But I have zero expectations that it will do all of the work for me.

@jgordonYou can actually get it to cite sources if you ask. 'please cite your sources and include links' usually works. Granted, sometimes those sources are confabulated, but some are accurate. @lauren

So after wading into the debate yesterday based on an article written by @ploum (and posted by @dangillmor), and the larger #fedipact controversy, I decided to share a slightly more coherent version of my thoughts. I still think unnecessary #gatekeeping and preemptive #bans suck and will cause a helluva lot more damage to the protocol than Meta likely will, but as always, hope others who differ in their thoughts will engage in some healthy debate, and not just resort to calling me a troll for having a different opinion than them. https://careylening.substack.com/p/the-fediverse-metapocalypse-and-preemptive

@mansrVarious laws in most countries have acknowledged that esignatures are as legally valid as wet signatures. Nothing stops forgery, and if someone wants to forge an agreement they can do so (usually easily) regardless if the agreement is mailed or emailed. @nCrazed @neil

@mansrOh man, nothing will disabuse you of quaint notions like consistency and resemblance, quite like reading a bunch of contracts and wills, trusts and estates cases. We have literal centuries of cases arguing over these issues. @neil @nCrazed
