@inexcode yes, the app needs to be a lot more frugal, and yet snappy.My phone is always on, always connected (except when I'm deep in the forests, documenting #wildlife) 24x7.The #RAM sizes are increasing, so are the storage sizes. 1 TB microsdxc is not very expensive.And yet we need to try and reduce the number of writes to the storage. Can be done if the in memory database is exploited.@darnell

@darnell it's not very expensive to have a 128 GB microsdxc card (even 1 TB costs are coming down) and data costs are very low in #India.Theoretically the smartphone app could itself be publishing & subscribing to the #ActivityPub, without needing a #Ruby app on a #webserver.Building the #FederatedTimeline & making it snappy is going to be the most difficult aspect though.Both #iOS & #Android could do it, but it won't be #Mastodon anymore. Unless a #SingleUserInstance can be setup on them.

@darnell BTW, single-user instances are a great way for the young'uns (not the music group) born into walled gardens to learn about the original ways of the Internet, as it was intended to be.To be #makers, #tinkers, #repairers.Instead of consumers hoodwinked into thinking they're creators and influencers.Plus, federation is a path better suited towards Web3.0 instead of Web3 😎
