@mmasnick I would think a few things:1) It'd be difficult to implement any sort of common "algorithm" across all of the various Mastodon servers in the federation.2) Other features cover the "I don't wanna miss stuff" ground already, which require a bit more intent to the search. Hashtags apparently are searchable and the main way one is supposed to discover new things. I also keep an eye on the federated timeline as well.

You know, I've seen the fair few posts talking about how boosting is really important on mastodon, seeing as there isn't any algorithm to boost things for you if all you do is like stuff.But..... Like............ I don't like it when I follow someone and all I see on their timeline is a bunch of boosting. I didn't like it on birdsite and I don't much care for it here. It feels like drowning out your own voice, in a way.So, I've trained myself to only boost those really good things.

Like, the ones that I find really neat or clever or whatever, and I try to maintain a healthy balance of my own posts in the mix.I guess my point is, boost, but please don't get carried away? Mix your own voice in there too.

Guys, when every election is a photo finish, something is being artificially constructed.People want to agree with each other and solve problems. It is in our social nature. It is not natural to be 50-50 for decades on end.
