@NanoRaptor I hoped so, but it also looks like it might taste like methylated spirits.

@mjg59 I switched from rsnapshot (rsync in trenchcoats) to Borg. Loving it. I do hourly backups which take a few mins on each machine, to a central backup server over an encrypted connection. WFM YMMV

@cassidy Decent browsers allow you to break out tabs as apps really nicely. Chrome, Chromium, Microsoft Edge all do this. Firefox, less so. It's one of the main reasons I use those browsers. Most of these icons on my desktop are browser 'tabs' as apps. <3

@cwebber federation: Lots of distributed data rather than one centralised hub containing all the accounts and data.activitypub: the message protocol used between federated servers - like mastodon, and soon threads. (maybe)

Not everything should be packaged as a snap. Some things aren't (currently or ever) suitable. So, I started a (wiki) page on the #snapcraft forum to try to outline what types of applications are appropriate and what might not be. Contributions and thoughts are welcome. ("Nothing should be a snap" will get you a block)https://forum.snapcraft.io/t/snapcraft-suitability/37946?u=popey

The Ubuntu project is going all-in on Matrix, it seems. They've set up a governance council to manage the whole thing. https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/introducing-the-temporary-matrix-council/41348?u=popey#ubuntu #matrix #linux

Just realised if the UK has a general election at the end of the year, my son will be able to vote for the first time, as his 18th birthday is in September. That’s assuming the election is in late October or November. I don’t know how long after his birthday (and thus eligibility) and then online registration to vote, he becomes able to do so? I assume it’s not immediately?
