@textfiles One big reason account lookup fails is that there's no WebFinger endpoint, much less any other essential route.https://docs.joinmastodon.org/dev/routes/#well-known

@ncommander I had a similar experience when I moved in and the utility company had quietly changed the serial numbers on my electric and gas meters to a new system without updating the labels.

@foone Cribbing settings from the default user registry hive (faster than creating a sacrificial user profile) might be another option next time. It's confusing because it's not the hive loaded under HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT (the user profile of the SYSTEM account), although that might have worked in this case as well.https://devblogs.microsoft.com/oldnewthing/20070302-00/?p=27783

@foone Windows 3.x Paintbrush evolved from PC Paintbrush (Plus) for Windows, which started as a native Windows 1.x/2.x app.

@foone At least 4chan used to losslessly process JPEG files with jpegtran to remove all metadata, but without the -optimize parameter so every file got recompressed at baseline and became larger. If you played the fixed Huffman table right, you could easily end up with a 300 MB file. But at some point, they changed it so that the size cap applied after this cleansing step.

@ncommander I've been using it the whole time, even though I'm still annoyed that it ate my favorites and bookmarks from external instances multiple times and it's basically impossible to get any context to posts I replied to some time ago. Not sure if that's a general Mastodon limitation or if something has gone wrong from the start here.
