This morning, while making coffee, I logged onto the Other Site out of habit really. Five seconds of doom scrolling later, I deeply regretted it. Just bile and anger.Came over here. Learned a bunch of new things, read loads of interesting posts, muted one person, liked/boosted a few other things... and here we are.@jeffjarvis was right. It's just better here.

Now tell me who is doing more damage to our democracy: Mark Zuckerberg or Rupert Murdoch? And if you’re answer is Zuck, please note how Rupert and his cronies willingly, knowingly, deliberately shoveled dangerous lies onto the airwaves in search of ratings. As they have been accused of doing for decades. FB amplifies, but Fox is the source.https://www.washingtonpost.com/media/2023/02/17/fox-news-dominion-ratings-fear/

The Post, with an unsurprising lack of self-awareness, writes about “unscrupulous” companies that lure consumers into expensive and difficult-to-cancel subscription plans. This dark pattern is basically core to the newspaper industry’s business model. Few industries have leaned on these tactics more than newspapers.https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2023/03/24/ftc-cancel-subscriptions/

Man, someone in Facebookland didn't get the memo. The hype train has moved to the next station.

Do better, WashPo. The laziest of headlines possible.

Do better, Inquirer. Lazy lazy lazy.(The reason: A growing number of parents speak less-common languages not supported by the district's interpreters.)

Oooh, the Guardian nails it with this. "The extremist congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Green" ... Pretty good moniker there. I hope that's in the Guardian style guide.

Once again, the Times and Post predict slowing or stagnating monthly job growth. Once again they are wrong. I wonder why they bother, honestly.

People mock me mercilessly for traveling with my own fussy, artisanal coffee and coffee rig with me when I travel. Decided to leave it home for a quick in-and-out trip to MSP -- and oh lord, am I regretting that decision. How do you people drink this garbage water? Wow.

Still struggling to find a point to all the breathless coverage of the Open AI soap opera. The answer to the question "what does this mean?" is absolutely nothing at all. That said, I approve of this exclusively because "TRONC-level management" is a pretty good own. https://www.niemanlab.org/2023/11/what-does-openais-rapid-unscheduled-disassembly-mean-for-the-future-of-ai/

@simon This is really helpful. I think we could probably add to this list…
