@StefanEJones @bruces This is where the big box o' useless stuff and rudimentary wire stripping and splicing skills come in handy. More than once I've made the thing I need using the wall wart from one forgotten product and the connector from another. Just mind the polarity.

I've given up and unfollowed all the common hashtags like (leaving out the # symbol) Ukraine, EU, Brexit.... Following them simply fills your timeline with hashtag-packers and the signal:noise ratio is terrible. Best to stick to following individual accounts.

@futurebird (In all seriousness, a few years ago there was someone doing the opposite nearby here in Portland: they were sitting out with a box and balloons and stickers proclaiming Democratic candidates, and a sign saying they'd collect and turn in your ballot for you. It really smelled to me like a tar pit scam for making Democratic ballots disappear. Several people called the police, but of course no laws were being broken.)

Yesterday I discovered that not only do #crows distinguish between people, but also between #cats. There's a neighborhood cat whose presence is always announced by the outraged crows yelling and swooping at him. But they pay no attention to our cat, even if he's walking right by them. i can only assume that the other cat has menaced them or their nests in some way, and Stanley never does that.Anyway, yesterday three crows were standing quietly on our driveway apron looking at Stanley, as he sat looking back at them and meowing chattily from no more than 10 feet away.To Stanley, a #bird is a person if he's ever seen us talking to it. I've spoken to scrub #jays, #hummingbirds and crows in his presence, and since then I've seen him talk to them as well.
