@mastodonusercount What leaves me a little skeptical is the number of toots/hr. The average is near 1000 and doesn't seem to change over a doubling of users and servers.

@ParadeGrotesque @SDF Remarkable to see a 15=17x increase in new users and reports, but only 2x in active users and interactions. Clearly something is off.

@ruud this points more strongly in the direction of web-of-trust moderation, applicable to both instances of users. A new user or instance with no trust in the fediverse needs to solve a captcha or a cryptographic riddle to federate. This raises computational costs for spammers but only negligibly for good actors. This is the approach used by Freenet.
