The Messaging Layer Security (MLS) protocol has been published as RFC 9420 today! MLS is the first standardized and fully specified end-to-end encryption protocol. The specification is freely accessible, and its security has been analyzed in numerous academic publications.Check out our blog post for a high-level overview of MLS, its practical applications, and why it matters.https://blog.phnx.im/rfc-9420-mls/#encryption #MessagingLayerSecurity #MLS #EndToEndEncryption #privacy #E2EE

We ended 2023 with a talk at #37C3. @raphaelrobert and Konrad presented the new standard for end-to-end encryption, Messaging Layer Security (MLS). The room was packed and some people couldn't attend in person – luckily the talk is now online and can be watched again.🍿 https://media.ccc.de/v/37c3-12064-rfc_9420_or_how_to_scale_end-to-end_encryption_with_messaging_layer_securityThank you @ccc and all helping hands for the great event!#securemessaging #encryption #e2ee #messaginglayersecurity

We are growing and #hiring a full-time and a freelance Senior Rust Engineer to help us build the next generation of private & secure messaging. The new Messaging Layer Security (MLS) protocol is at the core of our work. We are building a modern messaging application and technology stack based for a range of target groups. If you’re interested in joining our team, please apply today! For friends of secure messaging 🥷, please share our post with potential candidates.https://join.com/companies/phoenix

We did a thing. We combined TLS and MLS into a hybrid protocol. Why? Because sometimes you need connections that last for weeks, quantum-resistant security, or simpler certificates. The experiment is open-source. Here's the story 👇https://blog.phnx.im/combining-tls-and-mls-experiment/

We are excited to share our latest work on making secure messaging more decentralized! We've developed DMLS – a new approach that brings fork resilience to the MLS protocol, solving a key challenge in distributed systems while maintaining Forward Secrecy. This work was made possible by eQualitie, who funded it as part of the SplinterCon Breakout program.#Cryptography #MessagingLayerSecurity #DecentralizedMessaging #Messaging #OpenSource #Security #E2EE #Encryptionhttps://blog.phnx.im/making-mls-more-decentralized/

Our solution builds on research by Alwen et al., using Puncturable Pseudorandom Functions (PPRFs) to allow multiple group states to coexist securely. This means:- No need for a central ordering service- Maintain Forward Secrecy even with forks- Better support for decentralized messaging
