@evan “everyone should be able to” is different than “everyone should know how to”, imo. Everyone should be able to avail themselves of the resources and community to learn how to program, if they want to. Everyone should not need to know how to program, no.

Every time I post about this there's some drive-by takes of "well tech companies ARE overstaffed" or "managers are the REAL problem" or whatever else, and let me be abuuuuundantly clear: the actual and only problem is treating people as means to an end, fungible assets of production, and disposable instruments. I don't care if you do this in service of ~*shareholder value*~, or rEaLiGnInG pRiOriTiEs, or whatever other bootlicking reason you want to parrot. I don't care, and you will get blocked.

like I realize I intentionally self select for programming friends who are commie pinkos who hate everything the current hype cycle represents but there aren’t so few of us even in the centre of the tormentus nexus enclave that we’d constitute anything smaller than a significant minority, and I am guessing the prevalence of things like copilot among non-SV devs is lower, not higher, just based on typical tech adoption curves if nothing else

one of my core beliefs about the conventions of the web is that not including the date in the URL for sites where the time of publication matters (99.9% of all writing) is deeply antisocial behaviour and this is not the primary reason I hate substack but it is definitely one of them
