@IdahoLark Definitely an “I would need to win a big lottery prize” purchase!——We lived in CDA when the youngest was born and used to take the kids camping at Heyburn State Park… which is how we found out about the Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes bike trail. It is truly a treasure.A budy is going with me for a week in Heyburn and we are thinking of biking the whole thing.

@vanilla @nachtfunke @jaredwhite Unpopular opinion: Your web developers should not write a line of javascript until the web site is “done”.That is the true meaning of progressive enhancement.

I really do love features like VMWare’s snapshots.Being able to save the current state of an OS and roll back to previous states helps a LOT when you are trying to figure out how to do something.

@ParadeGrotesque oof… that sucksI have noticed that if I backup/restore some images off to an external hd I sometimes get that. But, I’m using vmware fusion and I chalk some of that up to moving things from apfs to the macos extended file system. If I just leave the files where they are… it seems ok for my small time use.I use it mostly for “prototyping” stuff we are going to do on our real servers.

@ParadeGrotesque I kinda figured that was the case… which is why I pointed out I wasn’t doing that.:-)I will point out tho that when we started to use snapshots… we provisioned an additional server just to prove that the snapshots we take can actually be restored.(which in no way implies it can’t break in the future, but you gotta prove it works before putting some eggs in that basket)

QOTD: The beginning of the Reagan administration is a watershed moment in the economic history of the U.S.—Pretty much every fucked up thing about today can be traced back thru that event.https://apple.news/AaLEbLGS-T5uGGEN1LNzxtg

BTW: One does not need an apple device to click on a link to Apple News. That link will take you to The Washington Post if you don’t have an apple device.

@ParadeGrotesque I don’t doubt the first part at all. Tho I’m not sure how much info they get from say chrome on android hitting the url… other than the ip address and the referrer data. Once they redirect the browser they are out of the loopI do think that Apple is way more constrained about the data it shares with it’s “partners” than the partners are about who they share the data withI’ve been meaning to create a shortcut to “de-apple-news” those links But, honestly it is a low priority

@futzle When in the Air Force the lab supervisor realized that everything I touched went to shit… so, they put me in charge of QA.We had one of the lowest failure rates in the service that year.—When working at a nuclear weapons plant and the team wanted to work overtime… they would take me with them. Because, if something is broke… you stay until it is fixed.—I don’t break the stuff… but if it is flaky, it’ll show its true colors if I am present.

@futurebird @gizmomathboy When I was in the sixth grade (the 70’s) I literally had to take a class called “life skills”.It was a year long course but you rotated every six weeks to a new “skill” class.Examples: Home ec, finance, small engine repair, health, etc… And, naturally… since “it was good enough for us”…Well, actually, I think something like that really should be done these days.(In this case it could be covered in the finance section)

@futurebird I voted no, then remembered I have a pi running mythfrontend connected to the tv. There is an older hdhomerun on my network with an antenna connected. And, my primary input is an AppleTV… which has the channels app installed. So, technically I can use the channels app to tune the hdhomerun and watch live tv.But, I don’t do live… which is what the mythtv is for. It uses the hdhomerun to record broadcast tv. I would normally watch something I recorded… or something I stream.
