@paulc @futurebird @Nonya_Bidniss my desktop publishing used to be higher need when I was running a non profit. Now? Affinity is getting done what I need so far. Despite several "AI" features in Skylum luminar neo, which I don't use (and I'm not sure most are even generative ai), the core photo editing software on that and rudimentary photo cataloguing has been fine for me.

@futurebird I love my toaster oven so much. Just big enough for the standard frozen pizza, which means it almost eliminates the need for the big oven.

@futurebird I'm trying to decide what to do here in western Miami Dade County. This county, which Biden won by seven points despite the media screaming it went pro Trump (it went less Democrat, which is different) went hard right last night. I'm afraid to *talk* to anyone, especially anyone with fairer complexion. I have my people and we're gonna need to mourn together and then rally in some way. Or just leave. I need to talk to my kids.

@stux the thing is, he's using the word because he usually can pronounce it and he's been told it's a good thing by people he thinks are smart. Like the jackass in the picture who is posing for "world's dumbest human"Musk and Bezos et al LOVE tariffs because they'll manipulate them to make more money. So the issue with people being mad is that the oligarchs will be very happy and will do everything thing in their power to keep tarrifs. They're still mad FDR got rid of most of them!

One thing that's less discussed about #fascism is it's often incredibly poorly run. Replacing skilled and experienced people with loyal and ruthless but otherwise unqualified ones is pretty typical and a fatal flaw that can be exploited to accelerate fascisms demise. This doesn't mean fascism isn't inherently destructive, dangerous and murderous. It is. But it prefers those things over stability and longevity no matter the propaganda. And fascists aren't necessary stupid. 1/3

I have a very hard time thinking about the Holocaust because it's absolutely awful. But it's an interesting example of this. They created an industrial method for murdering innocent men, women and children with the gas chambers. But, it wasn't working because even #Nazis broke down over the awfulness of it all if they participated in the whole process. So they created segments and isolated Nazis into the segments so they didn't have to participate in the full murder process. 2/3

(Holding my vomit down--so awful)Then there's the whole process of getting the victims of the gas chambers to their deaths. Millions were just murdered in the streets or in forests, but millions needed to be transported and that took a lot of effort and thinking. During a war they were losing.Hitler invaded Poland believing France and England would let him and the US would stay out of it. He KNEW he couldn't win a war against UK, FR and US in 1939. The death camps started in 1942

What I'm saying is: the Nazis provoked a war they couldn't win and knew they couldn't win. Three years into this war *they took time and resources they didn't have to create a machine of pure hate and evil just because they wanted to* and not only accelerated their own defeat in the process but--they knew--increased the consequences of their losing exponentially. They KNEW the death chambers were what we now call a crime against humanity and they FEARED the consequences. Did it anyway.

I guess my point is do not under estimate this moment's evil and destructive power. But do not over estimate the fascist invulnerability either. This new lot is led by a fucking reincarnated (no not literally) Hitler inner circle shit in Stephen Miller. I'm not sure if that makes him more likely to make the exact same mistakes or to be more aware of the folly of his heroes but it's worth noting. These people can and will be beaten. The question is at what cost? Fin

@futurebird right? And, as Liam Neeson in Schindler's List pointed out, even one is too many. Some people will choose to make ultimate sacrifices. But so many will be victims of this who get no choice. It makes me sick. Both thinking about the future and thinking about how we've dishonored 6 million people, mostly Jews, who were murdered needlessly. The world said never again. We lied.

@futurebird I do think without advertising it's a tough sell to get people to move to the Fedi. It would be cool if some mega blockbuster movie or superstar promoted. Dolly, Beyonce, or Taylor could make a huge impact.

@futurebird a political theorist named Benjamin Barber spent the last decade arguing for putting power in relatively little things: mayors. I have several of his books but haven't taken the time to read them yet. I'm not sure if it's a good argument or not. I did like his An Aristocracy of Everyone book but that was early nineties when I read it.

I'm just going to say it. #Mastodon has a racism problem and we need to do something about it. I'm not going to #BlueSky no matter how much better the experience is for anyone right now because Bluesky is a honeypot trap run by crypto nuts who are notoriously white supremacist as a whole. I'm not going to #Threads or any #Meta product for similar reasons. I'm not going down the #XitterThis is it. This is my last social media spot and I'm getting tired.

#Protest today in front of Rep Maria Salazar's office. US FL 27th Congressional. It was small, but loud. And here's the deal, this is a particularly red section of Miami Dade County and for every finger, or thumbs down or "You hate America" we got we got at least SIX favorable communications from drivers. So, at noon, when it was hot, during a work day, about 20 people (some not in photo) showed up to tell our rep to stand up to Trump. #Miami #Florida

Not shown, the four or more cops monitoring us. Two from her office, one from the bank parking lot behind us. Eventually one in the left hand turn lane half a block up from the protest. Now, this is mostly old ladies, right? About 20 of us. Holding up signs like "protect the poor". We got FOUR cops monitoring us. The pro Trump rallies that started this small two years ago then swelled to perhaps 30 to 40 people EVERY Saturday at Tropical Park? I never saw ONE cop. Just saying.
