Tip for people seeing friends join counter.social -- it is not a good fediverse neighbor! Myself and a bunch of other admins blocked it a couple years ago because the people who were running it were unfriendly to the point of abusive! They admit to some of this in their own FAQ: https://counter.social/faq.htmlGet your friends on good servers. 💚(Like here, for example! I'll send an invite code to anyone, and any Shop member can make invites)

Because I still get (good faith!) questions about it, please, I beg you, don't let your friends join or use c̶o̶u̶n̶t̶e̶r̶.̶s̶o̶c̶i̶a̶l̶I could express why at length, but here's just one case. Compare how much external JS they load vs the no-external-js for the shop and most other mastodon sites.If they want to claim they're not selling data, it starts _there_.

Hi! A thing I am doing, which I would encourage other #mastodon admins to do, is follow the blackmastodon hashtag in your dash. (not linking to not take space in that feed)Why? So when inevitably that community discovers inherent bias in the fediverse, the admin community is already aware and working to fix.Ignore this advice if you feel you'd have to _chime in_ and don't qualify.(Please do not give me cookies for this, this is bare-fucking-minimum ally work)

Hey, if you want to be "verified" on the fediverse as being _actually you_, you don't need some third party to verify you or to check some list.Got a domain you own, that's obvs you?Paste `<a rel="me" href="https://your.server/@your_username">Mastodon</a>`into the html on that domain, add that domain to your profile links, bam, verified at least as comprehensively as a lot of folks on birdsite.If this seems hard, I will help you! Hey kudos to @northbaypython for being the first conference I've seen that's _really_ taking "live events in the time of COVID" seriously.They're moving from an event inside a (gorgeous) theater in Petaluma in December to an event as outdoors-as-they-can-make-it, in a well-ventilated barn, on a ranch, in June. And that's _before_ the rest of the COVID precautions.Tremendous, tremendous ideas, and setting a bar.
