My college (California College of the Arts) is going to close, ending operations in June 2027 after we teach out as many students as we can. Vanderbilt will take over the campus and open a location in San Francisco. It'll be my twelve year anniversary at this job this summer. The best coworkers, students, and faculty you could ask for.

The For Carnation / self-titledThis is a truly excellent obscure album, by one of the members of Slint. Slow, haunting songs with an indelible atmosphere. #music

This strategic move is set to bring inestimable benefits to our customers, clients, shareholders, employees, contractors, precarious labor, executives, indentured servants, board members, disgruntled peons, sycophantic sinecures, and their friends and family. We are excited to be included in the Casturbium community.

@edbilodeau I've been thinking about this, it's kind of shocking there are still old school spam emails with misspellings in them.AI has *definitely* lead to a boom in phishing. We see so many more attacks, of an increasingly convincing quality, than we used to.

AI is very good at simulacra, valid looking bullshit. If your job is bullshit, AI is a godsend, enabling you to bullshit at previously unheard of speeds. It's great at emails and verbose documents no one reads. It rarely helps with other jobs. Minor productivity gains, maybe, at a cost that the purveyors seem averse to disclosing. This is an oversimplification to some extent, but it's largely true.https://futurism.com/artificial-intelligence/workers-ai-useless-bosses-miracle

Would love to see a business model that replaces the entire C suite with AI but retains frontline workers. This is "saving money on labor" btw. Hire me as a consultant Silicon Valley and I promise you we can make millions.

Been reading latest Nobel Prize for Literature winner László Krasznahorkai lately—The Melancholy of Resistance now, third book of his I've read—and enjoying his bleak, muddy outlook. I will probably go through his whole oeuvre, & I'm looking forward to "War and War".I will say, his style of no paragraph breaks is not my favorite. Yes, you feel immersed in a sea of words. But you lose the outstated impact of a long paragraph every now & then, as in Proust and Faulkner.

There are those days where you write literally one line of code (in PHP even) but it was thoroughly researched, you understand the reasoning, and it solved a major and until then mysterious problem. Feels like a resounding victory.

@susankayequinn this has been a paradigm in philosophy for a long time, "process philosophy", I assume the shared name is not accidental. Whitehead is usually cited as the prime example, though it certainly goes back to Heraclitus' "can't step in the same river twice".

My wife keeps calling Blade Runner "Chinatown". "You know, Chinatown, that Harrison Ford movie." I am trying to explain that Chinatown is an entirely different movie and that this is very confusing.
