@mjg59 obvious answer: the "meritocracy" is the market of free products, not the internal management processes of one specific project or dev group.Meritocracy doesn't mean nobody does dumb shit, it means that the dumb shit doesn't get the opportunity to control the market.Arguably that has come true with the ongoing decline of FSF influence with the decline and staleness of a lot of their core projects. Meritocracy in action...

@penguin42 @aka_pugs nah. Having worked for several 10k+ companies, they've all had very distinct cultures. My two most recent both have major shortcomings in their cultures, but so very differently.

@mjg59 yes, but just don't buy the dumb thermostat up front. Your hearing/cooling system probably just has dry contacts (that's the only output from a generic smart thermostat)... so go directly to the microcontroller of your choice.
