@ParadeGrotesque It's funny that one of the major advantages when Mastodon showed up on the scene was its ease of installation and administration in comparison to existing alternatives.And it's definitely not the only game in town, even now.

LB: All capital is ultimately hostile to humans, be they customers or workers. Allowing capital to amass the power to enact their chosen policies will be bad for people.

Vad säger det om "väst" och vårt förhållande till arabvärlden att al-Sisi fick göra statskupp och avsätta den demokratiskt valda presidenten, förbjuda muslimska brödraskapet, som i sann västlig demokratisk tradition lät Bassem Youssef hållas på TV? Att al-Sisi och den väststödda militären, snarare än Den Despotiska Islamismen var det som tvingade Youssef i exil?Men nej, inte ett ytterligare ord. Ingen vidare analys. @Wolven Language models in general have always had a really hard time dealing with negations, honestly, especially if you try to do semantic processing using some kind of embedding space.

@futurebird There's loads of 'fun' things relating to the Colorado river, starting with the California Water Wars (LA stealing all the water from the Owens valley) and continuing through the All-American Canal (we need to build a new canal that runs _entirely_ on American soil so that there's no chance for Mexico to shut it off in case of conflict). @teddy @AustinB @meena @VirginiaHolloway @EverydayMoggie

Thinking that the only things available to the US security state from Signal are the things Signal claim to save is, I feel, naive in the extreme.On the upside, them leaking, acknowledging, or unambiguously using that in a way that is traceable is going to be a massive upset, and you're probably not that important.But Apple, Google, Microsoft, Facebook, and Signal, are all US organisations with servers in the US operating under US wiretapping laws.

So, by all means, use Signal, organise and shittalk, but for anything truly sensitive, something that could realistically threaten US national security or be perceived to do so, you might want to consider other ways of organising.

@aud Signal is a US organisation with servers in the US and operating under US wiretapping laws and officially only works on US-controlled operating systems. It's a lot better than Facebook messenger and certainly better than fediverse DMs (where's that E2E encryption AP extension?), but I think taking their word for what is accessible the US security state is naive in the extreme.
