@jeffcliff @graf @pinemarten @Ree Everyone in that picture died of Covid, Jeff, as you know. So it wasn't necessary. Right, Jeff?

@sickburnbro @john_darksoul "... and building software was the future."I remember that mindset from the 1980's. And it had great appeal because it made making mistakes much more consequence free during design. Engineering up to then involved doing actual calculations and theoretical design, then testing with physical objects. Objects which broke, cost money, made a mess. Now you could just iterate your code writing, meaning guessing a lot and just trying things out, consequence free. That certainly had some advantages but that psychology spread everywhere. And you have engineers designing physical devices today who's whole philosophy is to just keep trying things until it (seems) to work. At least well enough, which is never specified. The pictures of SpaceX engineers in groups showing few if any indians and mostly White men and Asians reflects this. Making physical things that work reliably is hard. There are no short cuts.

@WhitestTemplar @teto That's an interesting take. It could be a trait that's been ingrained in them over Millenia and become self reinforcing as a survival advantage. A combination of genetics and social behavior that reinforce each other. I'd become more and more convinced that something like this is true.

@NoDoxGregBrady @graf I've known people who will read how particle accelerators, which we've been building for over a century, will drive a particle to near light speed and so experience time and length dilation. Standard special relativistic effects we've long known and understand to where we can make GPS work. Because without taking these effects into account timing involved simply won't work. And then turn around and claim we can now manipulate space and time.Maybe there is more and she knows about it. My bet is there isn't and she doesn't.

@Kalogerosstilitis2RevengeoftheJunta @mushroom_soup They jacked straight into the widwit mind set with that shit. All of it.Some one with (((promoted))) status or influence says something that is accepted as being smart or clever and they become immediate mindless repeater stations trying to catch a small bit of that recognition for themselves. Completely without thought. It's fucking brilliant when you step back and look at it. It also must be utterly driven out.

@CliffSecord @PalePimp @slashdot The academics whose books or publications I appropriate for myself would happily see me or my family imprisoned or dead and would eagerly help to make that happen if they could.Fuck them all. They got paid. I owe those fuckers nothing.

@sickburnbro @TeaTootler It's just one more salient out of many on our unsustainable system.
