@Nonilex Trump has repeatedly shown his disaffection with NATO and his disinclination to support NATO allies.NATO without the USA would be like the Warsaw Pact without the USSR so perhaps it should be allowed to wither. Better to concentrate on the UN and the EU.

@Nonilex sounds perfectly reasonable. Public events are a joint effort between the performer and the venue and the venue changed their name. By doing so they have irritated the contract with him so I think he’s perfectly justified.

Sadly I think this could be a large part of the problem. US politicians put party first and country a very poor second. So they are quite prepared to stand by and watch the moral economic and social destruction of their country simply in the hope they will win the next election.The USA is the manifestation of all that is wrong with first past the post politics. It produces acute polarisation and binary choices which do not reflect public opinion.It produces no more than vacuous confrontation

@nanook @inthehands okay let’s be clear . The ICE agents at the Border in the main are career agents who have been with the Service for 10, 20 years. In general, they are not thugs. They are the C of ICE.But the I of ICE are an entirely different story. In the main they are untrained and unvetted and yes, they treat people worse than the playground bully. To make matters worse the politicians have given them immunity to prosecution so they can do what they like

It is right wing niche, set up by extreme right politicians.Neil Oliver himself is an actor who has made his career in introducing documentaries which of course makes people think he’s very knowledgeable for in fact he’s just reading a script. Covid turned him.Now, he doesn’t believe in Covid, he doesn’t believe in renewable Energy and as stated doesn’t believe in democracy. He’s a fruitcake, but GB News love him.

@nanook @inthehands oh well in that case, if you avoid the sources of information, then obviously you can preserve your opinion. And if you’re white and live in a white area, then you will never actually see incidents developing. But clearly, you agree with the overall thrust of the President’s policy of removing immigrants so perhaps we can put this discussion on hold for a few years and see how it all pans out.

@Nonilex he is carefully laying the ground to make the same accusation next time. He sees the writing on the wall at the midterms. He can’t prevent the election, but he can delay its implementation by making all sorts of legal representations that it was fraudulent. He will make more references to this as we get closer to the midterms.

@Nonilex whilst realising that the government line is these people are activists, agitators and domestic terrorists, I think it’s fair to say that neither of the two murdered people were protesting. Merely documenting the actions of the federal agents.So not very different from journalists!In fact, it is a kind of citizen journalism.

@futurebird Pretti wasn’t murdered at a protest.There were a few private citizens spread around the street filming the activities of ICE.The conflict was precipitated by an officer pushing a woman to the ground, Pretti attempting to help her up but then finding himself pepper sprayed and under a pile-on of 8 officers where he was finally executed by five bullets in the back.No placards. No chants. Edit: I ’m told the previous post was sarcasm so stand down everybody!
