This sounds dodgy to me...Crooked house pub:* Closed after burglary in June when interior trashed* Burned down Saturday night, fire crews appeared to be hampered by the lane blocked with mounds of earth* Monday demolishedThe latter happening so soon afterwards - if the scene was still being investigated for the cause then wtf?https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-birmingham-66434719Wikipedia page for that pub https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Crooked_House

Re that last boost - confirmed from here. Google will with that specific query state that there's no country in Africa starting with K 🤦‍♂️ It shows that AI is now influencing traditional search engine results so any results should now be treated as more suspect than they already were.https://www.google.com/search?q=country+in+africa+that+starts+with+k&oq=country+in+africa+that+starts+with+k#ai #search

I never thought I'd see myself buying disk boxes for 2.5" ssd's but now I've started using them like floppies 💾 it's sort of like I've gone full circle.#modernComputing Vs #retroComputing

@thatbrickster I need them outside of an enclosure as I now have a video recorder which takes up to 2 disks at a time. You just slot them in to the front as needed. You can see one inserted underneath the box

@EdS Sounds like it's not processing the equation correctly.C-A*B is actually non zero but too small for the float so it appears as zero.A*B-C is the same as above and is the same as (A*B)-C but it it looks like it's actually calculating A*(B-C), so the bug seems to be how it's parsing the equation. The problem is, how this type of algebra is parsed has changed over the decades so depends on which method the original author used

Some blank 5.25" floppy disks just arrived in the post. Most are unlabeled & look to be blank. Some have labels & printouts of contents. However there's a few cover disks including one for OS/2.Also 2 for the TRS-80 and one labelled Z280 C compiler demo disk#retroComputing

You must be kidding! From the latest systemd release:* A new component "systemd-bsod" has been added, which can show logged error messages full screen, if they have a log level of LOG_EMERG log level. This component is experimental and its public interface is subject to change.Systemd - making Linux more like the common virus known as Windows every release 🤦‍♂️ https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2023/12/linux-distros-are-about-to-get-a-killer-windows-feature-the-blue-screen-of-death

@futurebird I have thought about this as I do receive live feeds for the UK rail network, but couldn't figure out how best to do this without overloading the fediverse with traffic for making the posts too cryptic.

It looks like the YouTube retro channel TheLairdsLair has been hacked. All it's previous videos are gone and the channels name is now Space X Live (but still has the original handle).Only noticed as there's a new retro video out in the last hour but thought it was odd with the channel name in the notification.#retroComputing #youtube #hacked

Wow, I didn't realise that LibreOffice turns 40 this year with it's latest release. It started out as closed source Star Writer for CP/M in 1985 with DOS 3.2support in 1986.Then became Star Office in 1994 for Windows 3.1It became open source as Open office in 2001 and the LibreOffice fork in 2010.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/StarOfficehttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenOffice.orghttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LibreOffice#cpm #msdos #dos #libreOffice #openOffice #starOffice #retroComputing
