@futurebird When my son was a little toddler we lived in a house where we would sometimes keep open the front door with a stone to stop it swinging closed. To close the door we would just carefully kick the stone out of the way. My son started giving the stone a little kick every time he went past.

@DemocracyMattersALot People don't know that Trump's riff on John McCain was based on a scene from Woody Allen's 1998 film Celebrity. The scene is a nasty old grandma surrounded by her adoring family, saying "What's he famous for? For being captured? Why is he a hero? A colleague had the bright idea of codifying the format in an XML schema, theoretically making it easier for us to write compliant documents. They emailed the schema to the military base for approval and the excrement hit the proverbial fan. The schema included all the possible categories, including TOP SECRET, leading to endless apologies.

@futurebird Test Driven Development can help, although there are skills needed, and you can have errors in your tests!But the skills needed to write/troubleshoot a good test are more focused/limited than being able to codeTests also encourage you to write testable code, which is usually modular/functional, and broken code elsewhere is less likely to affect it.Monolithic code is hard to test/debug.
