Hey, if anybody out there in the Fediverse is looking for a 2yr post-doctoral fellowship in philosophy or history of biology with my group in delightful francophone Belgium, drop me a DM or send me an e-mail! UCLouvain will be opening up a call over the summer, at which my center has been pretty successful in the past. Boost away if someone in your network might be interested! :BoostOkay: #philosophy #philsci #histsci

As I wait for my iPad to update iOS for the millionth time, wondering about #tablet #hardware recommendations: who's building cool, open tablets out there? At least Android, maybe even a crazy Linux distro, on something light and vaguely iPad-shaped?I'm going to use this until it falls apart, of course, for sustainability reasons, but last I looked at non-Apple tablets it was pretty disappointing...

Finally *extremely* happy to announce that my book on the history of concepts of chance in evolutionary theory will be coming out (maybe even this year!). Read more about the project here: https://blog.pencelab.be/2021/the-rise-of-chance-in-evolutionary-theory-under-contract/

A quick post on the one thing I think is most important about Mastodon/the Fediverse in general: how moderation works. There are *100% absolutely totally* cesspool fashy TERFy Nazi nonsense places on this site. This is not utopia. What it is is a place where *your local moderators* on your instance, and *you yourself* can combine powers to really effectively moderate the world. If a server ("instance") is filled with garbage people, your instance can "de-federate" from them. 1/

I should follow my own advice and write a new #Introduction:Hello! I'm a philosopher and historian of evolutionary biology. I also work in the digital humanities, as well as some in ethics, especially ethics of biotechnology. I'm a 🇺🇸 emigrant and a 🇧🇪 immigrant. I've taught for a few years at the Université catholique de Louvain in Louvain-la-Neuve (donc parfois des posts en FR médiocre aussi).tag cloud: #philosophy #evolution #philsci #histsci #hps #darwin #dighum #belgium
