       @hn250 Early oughts, computer science major, took a course in visual processing with a leader in the field.One of our assignments was to analyze a project by some grad students that was having some impressive %age of positive recognition within its dataset of like a thousand volunteer students and 0 Black ones.They amended their paper later to say they added two Black students to the datset and the success rate was still good!Yeah... Because it thought those 2 were the same person...

       @lowqualityfacts I maintain, as an American, that dropping the A-bomb (twice!) was a fucked-up thing to do.If there is a brigth ethical line anywhere, it should fall on the other side of vaporizing infants.I have heard all the arguments. I don't care. If anything is wrong, it is wrong to turn babies into ash.Without getting into current events... my opinions have not changed. On either side.Please, everyone, stop nuking infants for a second. You're all failing the Voight-Kampf here.

       @Radical_EgoCom Interestingly enough, when the Confederacy fell, the Union states shipped barrels of grain as aid to British port towns that had previously depended on the processing of slave-harvested US crops.Some of those barrels survive with encouraging messages intact.So... it doesn't have to be every country for itself.

       @Radical_EgoCom My dad always said that heaven for him was a room full of broken sewing machines and bicycles.Less so the animal husbandry, my mom handled that. We had pets everywhere from boa constrictors to hedhehogs to a literal aviary of parrots and even some primates, growing up. (Slow lorises. We took them in from departing expats and ended up with babies.)But yeah between them we would have been a pretty good post-apocalyptic family.

       @Radical_EgoCom In Singapore a majority of housing is effectively state-owned and distributed. There's no stigma attached as there is in other countries to "council flats" or "section 8." It's just how you live there.Of course the system has its own flaws, as they all do. But I like the idea of public housing being, not even a fallback, just a normal middle-class way of life.
