https://www.json.org/json-en.html"JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) is a lightweight data-interchange format. It is easy for humans to read and write."LIES! Damnable lies!

@mansr In some config files I've seen on/off and yes/no both be valid aliases for true/false. That makes on and no antonyms, at least in that context.

@mansr I just don't need an infinite history of things I've said off the cuff. I'm using Mastodon more casually than I would use something like a mailing list.

@jimjag What's the very specific use case then? I did a quick search and looked on the openoffice.org site but can't find anything concrete.

@killyourfm @thunderbird This is a terrible list!(5) is Brave, which promotes a bullshit crypto coin (Basic Attention Token). Firefox is a much better choice here.(7) is KeePass, which is Windows only. KeePassXC is a better recommendation as it is more portable.(9) is FileZilla, which has bundled adware with the Windows installer and should not be recommended. WinSCP is a good alternative.(I realise I'm criticizing a pointless online list but this is the sort of thing that leads new users astray)

@marcan The FSF really have been doing a lot more harm than good to their cause over the last decade.Their recent blog post about JPEG-XL support being removed from Chromium used the following phrasing:"While we can't link to Google's issue tracker directly because of another freedom issue -- its use of nonfree JavaScript -- we're told that..."The brainworms are strong.

Bluesky are calling their new federation mechanism the "AT Protocol".I didn't realise that old modems needed a social network.

@mansr @hedders you may only enter if you cartwheel through the door. Bonus points if the door is closed and you kick it open on the way round.

I'm on my way to Manchester for @oggcamp #OggCamp2024 and making some notes for a possible talk on "System Containers: What, Why and How?" aka "Why I don't use Docker". Looking forward to seeing some of you nerds there!

If you're trying to spot me at #OggCamp2024, look for the illegible metal band logo in purple on a black t-shirt.

@monsieuricon @tusooa "The people removed from maintainer positions were identified as employed by companies on the US and EU sanctions list."My only wish is that this was clearly stated as part of the removal. I think more people would be behind the change if it was clearly justified in that way. Because fuck Putin and anyone who supports him.I think the vague statement in the commit message has made this much more controversial than it should have been. I guess there are reasons for that though.

I have a question for any other UK folks who run small businesses, please boost for visibility:Do you donate to open source projects? If so, how do you make these donations? My goal for this year is to donate 1% of the business revenue, split between social/environmental charities and the vital open source projects which we rely on.My understanding is that, in the UK context, donations to charities and non-profit organisations can only be claimed as business expenses if the recipient is registered as charitable organisation in the UK. That would exclude us from claiming pure donations (where we receive nothing in exchange for the donation) to most open source foundations as business expenses as they're registered in the USA or Europe. Many open source foundations offer "memberships" at different tiers for businesses but these are all well outside of our budget as a two person micro business.Donating as a non business expense would need to be done after tax which would reduce the amount we can donate.Am I missing something?
