#homelab peeps! I'm going all in on #linux, having just set up a 'brick' (NUC-style mini PC) and flashed #linuxmint onto it.It's all working well as a home server using #Jellyfin, and (when I can work out how to use #Docker lol) I'll start using #Immich too. The next challenge is setting up remote access to the brick. Does anyone here know how to #RDP into a Mint machine?

@shalien yes I think SSH is the easiest to get a reliable connection, but I'm a normie and can't handle command line-only access 😬 And this homelab is part of a wider project to work out how normies can shelter from #bigtech creepiness, so I need to keep it GUI-heavy, and preferrably FOSS. So I'll check out #Rustdesk - thank you!!!

@openrisk yes the 'one click install' is what we need. (Or close to one click). I think Yunohost offer this, but you have to get them installed onto the hardware first 😬 More likely success will come from cloud hosting solutions with mastodon / peertube / pixelfed / lemmy already available ready to go. If it could become as commonly offered as regular web hosting that would be great. Not VPS, where you have to set up yourself - a managed solution.@strypey

@Mer__edith in the negotiations do you suggest to them alternative ways that police and security forces could catch bad actors using encrypted services?I.e. trying harder with investigative work.If big tech can track us everywhere and predict our behaviour using metadata, why can't the authorities do the same?
