@BrodieOnLinux a very interesting discussion to read, especially as a Fedora user and gamer...I think I like the opt-in and the Copr approach. I understand that the administrative overhead of packaging all packages for #i686 even if the original providers of the software don't care about and test i686 anymore is significant.Hopefully they'll find a viable solution which lets me keep #Fedora running #EldenRing via #Steam. If Fedora dies as a gaming viable distribution, I would have to switch

@BrodieOnLinux @latenightlinux Maybe something to talk about for the news section of the next LNL Episode? 🙂Since Canonical announced it in the past but decided not to do it and Fedora discusses it now.

@boilingsteam So this is Protondb data about people comitting their results and reports there?Because I did four reports back in 2020-2023, when I was using Linux Mint Debian Edition. I only sent them in, because I was able to get games running using workarounds and wanted to share them.I never made a report for Fedora, because everything worked since I use it.The steam hardware survey (which should be more accurate) still shows a large portion of Ubuntu machines. Fedora isn't even listed there most of the time. It's interesting to see what's popular on protondb and it matches other data (like a steadily growing Bazzite share which matches with their increased number of downloads within the last months).Still, not sure how accurate it is.

@boilingsteam And good to know about the Pop_OS stagnation.Pop_OS still gets recommended to new Linux users.

@boilingsteam there are still distro news articles about it and I also assumed it was still alive and recommended it.Because it was one of the Ubuntu based distributions that came with the nvidia driver preinstalled, which is the first big obstacle for beginners in most distributions.Luckily the person I recommended it to picked Bazzite instead.

@SuperDicq @n3wjack Debian 13 will be able to start the latest games released in 2025.However, after that, not having a modern kernel with recent Nvidia drivers means not having the latest version of DLSS for example and that will cause games to crash or not even start like I experienced it with Steelrising two years ago when I was a Debian user.I have switched to Fedora and never had a problem of instability in any way.

@SuperDicq @n3wjack "support for gaming" combined with "Steam/Nvidia" does not sound like SuperTux or TuxKart, 0AD or other free software games. So it has to work with proprietary games and if you want to use your Nvidia card with all features for that purpose, the foss nouveau driver is also out unfortunately. You can absolutely replace Windows with Linux if you are into Singleplayer games, as the Anticheat topic relates exclusively to Multiplayer/Online titles and some of them are compatible (most of them are broken or denied by the publishers though). So it depends which games you want to play. If you are into Fortnite, PUBG, Battlefield for example, they won't work.Singleplayer games are no problem with proton these days. For an overview:https://areweanticheatyet.com

@wnagy ...es gab ja noch Woodstock 99. Das müsste genau in der Mitte liegen.
