My Algolia Dev Bit talk about https://chat.vitejs.dev is out! I forward here the call to action at the end of the video... join a few of the chat hubs of the projects you use and enjoy and try to help others there. It's a great way to get started in OSS.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6EK9BOhyDkE

@zachleat We tried to remove the temporary file by using `data:` and had to revert it, but we may try again at one point. That temporary file is a terrible hack.https://github.com/vitejs/vite/issues/13267#issuecomment-1624779173

In December 2020, I sent my first PR to Vite. Two years ago, we started Vitest, and I got a dream job at StackBlitz. Last EOY, we built Elk with the community. Breaking the tradition, I'll take the next weeks off. I'm very grateful and excited to keep building together next year!

@cheeaun Congrats Chee! It has been great seeing Phanpy evolve into such an incredible Mastodon client!

@erika I worked on a graphical engine to design logos for shirts for the web in the times of IE6 (we needed to abstract over SVG not being supported at one point using VML, ha... later on we moved to Canvas). We optimized fonts downloading for it. Because we needed to downloads fonts that had tons of glyphs that will never be used, we had an API in the server to get only the most common chars plus the one used in that particular design, and then we will request what was missed when the user was typing. It worked well for our use case. It would be interesting that this was something that worked even higher than frameworks.

@urlyman @jbm @elk In Elk, you can go to Settings > Preferences, and check the Use Star icon for favotire. The default in Elk is aligned with a change that is coming to Mastodon's default UI to use "like" instead of "favorite" and the heart icon

A reminder that if you're building a bot or app to interact with Mastodon, @neet actively maintains masto.js, a fully typed JavaScript API client. Battle-tested by @elk, @phanpy, and others. Neet made the creation of these apps a lot easier with his work 🧡https://github.com/neet/masto.js

@surma @jaffathecake Awesome episode! Interesting to hear that the main driver you mention for defaulting to @vite over Rollup is having the index.html as the entry. We'll be forever in debt to Parcel for showing us all the way on that one. Eager to see if Vite will end up winning over Jake at one point too.About caching, Vite may get better in that front in the future. It is one of the features that the team behind Rolldown has in the design table.

@james @bebatjof @Tusky @Mastodon @elk Several folks have worked on this before, like @userquin and @chris_zhu, so I think it is a good idea to create an issue. Maybe some contributors have more knowledge of RTL and can tackle this one. At least for the position of the hashtag.

@EverydayMoggie @scottjenson @elk @phanpy Elk should also respect your default setting, as configured in the standard Mastodon app

Back to a sea of notifications! 💜With all the AI magic from GitHub, I would love to see them adding a maintainer's copilot. "Would you like to mark these 354 notifications as done? (regular dependency updates, config issues, invalid repros, issues moved to discussions, ...)."

X keeps iterating on their social meta expansion... and has added back the title because it was terrible confusing when only the social image was rendered. But they don't want to revert back to the original, so they added the social title over the image and now there are tons of social image layouts that looks uncentered or has parts covered.I really hope we won't see everyone jumping to re-center their social images vertically, making them look misaligned here and in all other platforms.

Hopefully, most contributors to OSS projects understand that prioritization works differently compared to startups or enterprises. If someone out there wants to improve an OSS project, in whatever way they want to scratch their itch; you move out of their way and let them work.

Very interesting. MoonBit's new JS backend could be a good way to speed up CPU intensive tasks in some JS libs without adding a native dependency. It may move the line to switch away from pure JS a bit further.https://www.moonbitlang.com/blog/js-support
