@aspie4K Secondly, why would you be so invested in such wording that you would deride its obsolescence? Why meet this kind of activity with eye-rolling when instead you could be celebrating the fact that something that doesn't really much matter to you has made someone else's life easier or more pleasant? It costs you nothing and yet can mean a lot to those who don't share your situation. This isn't a critique or snide comment meant to insult you but an honest question. @alex

@redstarfish As someone who is definitely not winning any looks contests but has healthy and fun relationships with female coworkers, this is incredibly insulting. It must be exponentially more so for the women who have to see shit like this. Grow the fuck up.

@redstarfish The assumption that this is how society works is what makes this so insulting. People that aren't "good looking" can compliment their friends, even at work. Complimenting people at work you don't know is wrong regardless how you look. Assuming that women are as shallow AND unprofessional as the one depicted in that comic is a level of misogyny that makes me scream and tear out my hair. I don't understand how you can think that is okay or funny.

@redstarfish You can't say this "depicts how society works" and then claim it's satire. I have heard the word before and those two notions are mutually exclusive. So which is it? Does this cartoon use a type of militant irony to lambast the society it is portraying, or is it hold up a mirror to society so that we can recognize our own double standard? Cuz it sucks at both.

@freemo That makes sense. The folks signing the letter against Stallman care about the open source community and it's commitment to inclusiveness and diversity. The folks signing the letter in support of Stallman are more concerned with "men's rights" or fighting "cancel culture." It would take them longer to hear about it, since they're not a part of the community, but surprise, surprise, there are more insecure men on the internet than free software advocates. 🙄

I totally agree, but as far as I understand, that's not what the "men's rights" movement is advocating.As for the "cancel culture," are you arguing that the complaints against Stallman are unwarranted? @freemo if you're talking about @lupyuen , maybe he can confirm, but I'm pretty sure he signed the letter to remove RMS and got attacked by Stallman's supporters...And there are lots of good arguments against RMS if you give even a little credibility to the women he's behaved poorly towards.This isn't about Microsoft, or proprietary software. It's about a man who abused his position of authority after being asked not to, then people trying to take that authority away.@bonifartius
