@grammargirl NPR (June 2022): "The country called itself Türkiye — which is pronounced "tur-key-YAY" — after its declaration of independence in 1923, The Associated Press notes. Much of the Turkish public already recognizes that name, though the anglicized version is commonly used inside the country as well."^I have been curious if it would be used much outside of the UN and Türkiye (even if they've used it since 1923) since one letter is not in the English alphabet.https://www.npr.org/2022/06/02/1102596510/turkey-changes-name-turkiye-united-nations

@grammargirl I was curious, and checked some posts from my one of my old archaeology professors who often travels to Turkey/Türkiye. In the past 6 months most of the sites she shared from used Türkiye, but one organization used both name variations in different posts during that time period. In previous years most used Turkey. The last post she made in January was about this historical site called Göbekli Tepe in Türkiye with this link from UNESCO. https://whc.unesco.org/en/list/1572

@grammargirl The other day I noticed a frozen food bag had lines for opening the package on the side near the top and instructions to open it it there, but there was no perforation cut to actually open it.

@Teri_Kanefield I'm curious what the report will say about this:"McBurney said he intends to put the introduction and conclusion to the summation on the public record this week, along with a portion of the report discussion about potential false statements made to the grand jury under oath."

@grammargirl It could be both. A lot of people use soft spoken and/or whispered ASMR videos or audio to fall asleep.

@grammargirl Language is constantly changing, and likely changed even more rapidly before dictionaries.

@Teri_Kanefield It was error code 467, but I don't recall seeing that error code before and my husband wasn't familiar with it either. I tried to look it up, and never really got a clear answer on what it was besides the API reference in it.

@Teri_Kanefield I posted a link to an article by a couple lawyers on another platform that was mostly about the effect it could have on Willis, but someone in Georgia said she thought it was mostly about Deborah Gonzalez in Athens, referencing local rivalry and politics, and that Gaines is a sponsor of the bill. I also shared the thread from Anna Bower which mentions this a little, but the comment and links she provided gave me more context for the history of the bill(s) and changing support.

@grammargirl I still hate when people cough near me. I know it's sometimes just allergies--or asthma for a few of my relatives (one of my nieces coughs a lot with her asthma flare ups), but it makes me feel so panicky now. I also hate figuring it out for myself--like today wondering if my son brought a cold home from school or if it's just my allergies acting up this morning. I just minimize my time in the public and wear a mask either way, but it's still so stressful.

@grammargirl This reminds me I should probably drink some more water--any kind. I don't think I've had enough today.

@grammargirl @w7voa I always appreciate when people define the acronym first without assuming people know what it means. There have been so many times I've looked one up only to find it has multiple meanings, so I had to guess based on the context or which country was using it.

@grammargirl Thanks for showing the results! I was curious what the answers were going to be. I think a cracker is considered a flat biscuit in general so it makes sense to me. I've heard the phrase 'savory biscuit' used before too in order to distinguish it from a sweet biscuit (cookie). And then scones are sort of similar to American biscuits, but the ones I've had have usually been a different texture and consistency. They also may be because I've usually had scones with fruit in them.

@grammargirl My son likes to sigh and roll his eyes and say "father humor" instead of dad jokes. This is usually directed at his dad. 😂

@grammargirl I'm not sure how to answer yet, because sometimes it feels like a bit of both. Sometimes I've mentally prepared myself to tell my son about major news and he already knows. Other times he or his friends ask questions where I wonder how in the world they don't already know the answer. I would guess some young people are very engaged and fairly well informed, but there's still risk of something being inaccurate when news comes out quickly. I think other kids may be oblivious.

@grammargirl This happened to me the other day with the word 'flowers.' It started to look really weird to me after I typed it a few times.

@grammargirl My Fitbit says I failed at sleeping last night. It gave me a poor score. 😞 I had to have extra coffee this morning too.
