@simon yeah interesting. especially since LLM-aided writing could help non-fluent-English speakers overcome discrimination based on non-fluency. it'd be great if we could get LLMs to those folks.

@clive rofl my python version is similar. it works if I explicitly run `python3.11 -m pip`apparently pip3 also exists but I do not trust such naked commands.

@simon I have same question. I should probably not deploy based on every PR to main and only deploy on some other signal, as you say. Currently I get deploy collisions on Monday mornings from dependabot merges.

California is voting soon on a bill that encourages the conversion of non-functional turf to native plants. @simon Hm I havent tried pipx yet. Would it help me with the conundrums I faced in http://blog.pamelafox.org/2023/10/strategies-for-managing-dependencies.html ?

@simon Also, am debating whether to packagify the RAG evaluation CLIs I'm building, trying to figure out how generically useful they'd be beyond our sample app. Could you see them being useful for your stuff? (The first one's just a datatable so probably not, but the question/answer comparer maybe?)

@simon Yeah good point, half the point of packaging something is just to make it easier to discover the idea of it. And yep with Textual, my first time playing with it, I'm still flabbergasted that you can make CLI apps work like that.

TIL: if you need a free port, like for running a localhost for web app tests, use the ephemeral-port-reserve package: https://pypi.org/project/ephemeral-port-reserve/Here's an example:https://github.com/Azure-Samples/azure-flask-postgres-flexible-appservice/blob/7880a64e48ab63f630c3d62f5d6ee43956b27ca0/src/tests/local/conftest.py

Found another package for port picking from Google: https://github.com/google/python_portpickerWhat are you all using for port picking? I'm surprised there isn't an obvious package everyone's using.

@simon my blogspot is still going, since 2007, but i believe blogger has something like a single engineer working on it, sooo... and yeah I'm copying everything off medium that i had there.

step 1 to using local LLMs: clear enough space in your hard drive (or buy a separate drive like @simon )

@simon also "The standard way in the python ecosystem to release a backwards incompatible library is to rename the package so the versions can cohabitate." ...is that standard? i get the reasoning, but it seems fairly rare.
