@stux Years ago we were on a sidestreet in New York and a fire engine appeared with blaring sirens and its way was blocked by a double-parked car. The fire engine had an enormous rubber fender on its front and we soon saw why. Without a moment's hesitation the fire engine driver shoved the double-parked car along in front of it till it came to a gap in the cars. There it shoved the double-parked car off the road. A man riding shotgun in the fire engine threw a piece of paper out onto the car.

@futurebird Many years ago Scottish farmers whose cows were tending to lie on the remote highland roads in the night (the tarmac being a source of warmth) took to spraying them with a 3M luminescent paint so that drivers would see them. One night a driver in a panic phoned his doctor who had been treating him for alcohol addiction and said he had just seen a luminous cow and was this the first sign of the delirium tremens (DTs) that his doctor had been warning him about.

@johnmacintosh Right, the End is Nigh as predicted in Luke 21:11 ("There will be great earthquakes, and in one place after another food shortages and pestilences and there will be fearful sights and from heaven great signs.") and others. Time to move into one's bunker and stock up on TV dinners (or MREs), lots of Oreos and one's favorite drinks.

@johnmacintosh These photos of abandoned buildings and places fascinate me but because they seldom show names or places I'm starting to wonder whether some of them are AI-generated images. It would help if the genuine photos had legends with names and places and maybe dates.

@johnmacintosh Goodness me, what a memory-trigger. Hours spent in those mobile lounges, often parked somewhere on the ramp waiting for our plane to land and taxi in so that we could board.

@aral I'm not very clued-up about this. I'm just a home user running Ubuntu Linux. Is that different from corporate Linux ?
