       When the children were young, just after the turn of the century, we had a couple of WinX systems for them to access the that new fangled technology; the Internet. (We knew it was a fad, wouldn't catch on.)Oh great keepers of the ancient tech here is my ask...Please name (and picture if possible) the "black box" MODEM we had that would respond to ethernet requests on port 80 and dial-up our ISP.Yep, kids would open a browser and the box would dialup.#vintagecomputing #oldhardware

       @ParadeGrotesque I while whole heartedly endorse the practice of boosting, a practice that I participate in, I try not to "over boost".  When I review a prospective Mastodonian to follow and I find that they only boost I am disinclined to follow them.I believe that "serial boosting" causes an echo chamber effect which mimics the behavior of other social media sites.I enjoy the Fediverse because of the personal input, real people content, instead of just "liking someone else's post."$0.02
