Today is the Wednesday of Mid-Pentecost, marking the midpoint between Easter and Pentecost.Today's gospel reading is John 7:14–30, in which Jesus goes into the temple and teaches “in the middle of the feast.” In his teaching, Jesus reaffirms his unity with the Father. The middle of the days has come, beginning with the Savior’s Resurrection, and sealed by the holy Pentecost. The first and the last shine with splendor. We rejoice in the union of both feasts,as we draw near to the Lord’s Ascension:the sign of our coming glorification.

Early morning trip to the strawberry farm! I hope to make jam later, as well as strawberry syrup for ice cream.

On a whim, I stopped by a little independent garden store on my way home from the strawberry farm, and was delighted to discover they have chervil. I have tried unsuccessfully to grow this from seed in the past, so I am very happy to have found live plants.

@km @km At least that’s better than someone who commented on a recent religious post of mine, claiming that Emperor Constantine invented Christianity in order to control the populace.

Our church partners monthly with a local United Methodist parish to prepare and serve a meal for the hungry. I’ve made excuses for months, but I finally couldn’t deal with the hypocrisy of being a deacon and not helping out. So this morning I am sous-chef in a Methodist kitchen. The head chef is my pizza-making partner in crime. (No, we are not making pizza today.)Our parish lacks the resources, connections, and manpower to do this on our own. I am grateful for the UMC church for letting us join in — they’ve been serving this community for about 150 years.

@futurebird1. “Let’s Dance” by Bowie.2. “Tinseltown in the Rain” by The Blue Nile 3. “You Bet Your Love” by Herbie HancockThat last one is from the absolutely worst disco album made at the nadir of Herbie’s career. I loathe disco. And yet I harbor a secret and shameful love for most of that album.
