@lamp files must be send with a 2xx status code. 404 won't do. If you want to show a video when a page not found, return an HTML page with error message and 404 code and on that page embed the video (that itself will be served with code 200).

@alexelcu the #python stdlib includes venv module that creates a virtual environment and installs pip in it from a bootstrap. So, in a sense, all you need is Python interpreter itself.python3 -m venv .venv.venv/bin/activatepip install -r requirements.txtI agree things are easier in many modern languages, but they aren't that gloom as you make it sound.

@stux I'll definitely ban the server myself right away, but I don't think it's right to automatically ban it for everyone. Perhaps, it's better to let everyone decide for themselves if they want to see it. I like that mastodon already allows you to ban a server, not just a user.

@lamp BEAM is like JVM. Erlang is like Java. Elixir is like Kotlin or Clojure. BEAM is a VM created to run Erlang, and Elixir is a language written in Erlang that can compile into BEAM and interoperate with Erlang libraries. If something says it needs Elixir, it naturally also needs Erlang. If you're picking a Docker image and don't know which one something needs, pick Elixir one, it should have both Erlang and Elixir.

@hn50 SEO (Search Engine Optimization) was always a thing and when Google said they defeated it, they are lying. You can rank your website quite high in a search if you invest into it, pinterest being the best example. Apparently, the python.org team focuses on making a helpful documentation rather than SEO, and so content farms naturally win this battle.

@galdor @louis I recently worked with Go's own AST and I can tell you, that's a very frustrating experience. My linter now is full of null checks on every pointer, slice size checks, and type casting. I don't know if you can design a better API, but the current API of the package is very error-prone and verbose to use.

@galdor To avoid deep nesting when early return would be a good fit:1. Define more functions, which is easy because of function overload and guards, and call them.2. es, more pattern matching and "let it crash". 3. Elixir has "with" statement for monadic plumbing of pattern matching. Erlang had proposal to have something similar. Was it accepted? As a result, my Erlang/Elixir code always very flat. More flat than in any other language.

@amiloradovskyWasm is more low-level than JVM. While compiling C, Rust, Go, or anything else to JVM would be a grand project with lots of things that could go wrong, compiling to wasm is as simple as adding a new OS+arch compilation target.

Which one would you choose?1. Make sure you correctly handle user input in SQL queries to prevent SQL injection, or2. Make a standard banning any punctuation in geographical places and force local authorities to rename streets and reissue all street signs.https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-york-north-yorkshire-68942321#security

@fatboyI'm closely watching the development of Ladybird, "a truly independent browser":https://ladybird.org/It's from the creator of SerenityOS. He's a crazy guy, there is an amazing interview with him on Corecursive podcast:https://corecursive.com/serenity-os-with-andreas-kling/Considering the enormous complexity that modern browsers require, it takes someone crazy and very dedicated to pull of making one from scratch. So this is our best bet.

@robpikeThanks for keeping the built-in "println" function. The Go spec threatens that it may be dropped in any release, but having to type fewer letters is invaluable for debugging. Also, importing fmt adds at least 100 Kb to the final binary. Using println instead of fmt.Println helps to save precious space on embedded systems and it makes "Hello world" compiled with TinyGo very small, just a few kilobytes, which is an amazing selling point. #golang #TinyGo

Modern HTML, CSS, JS, and WebAPI are huge and complicated, and writing your own browser from scratch is almost impossible. It leads to only few alternatives available, and it gives them too much power. We need more diversity. So, here's the deal:1. We make specs for a small subset of HTML, CSS, JS, and WebAPI that is just enough.2. You make a browser that can render just that.3. I make all my websites work in it.Let's build a truly #IndieWeb.#chrome #firefox
