[one of the devs that likes my alternative universe]: We have portals to other universes, like https://man.9front.org/1/vmx. It's nice being able to put on a glove and stick your arm through the portal, tracking as little slime as possible through. This post was sent from Plan 9.CC: @alex@social.alexschroeder.ch

Look at affinewarp in libdraw. It's a new feature, added last summer, so 9front only, but it's probably what you're looking for.CC: @byte@awawa.club

It may be done at runtime, but that doesn't mean it needs to be done synchronously. That means that, ironically, you can spent an hour brute forcing some superoptimization of one function and nobody will notice on a long running program, but if you do that ahead of time, you will blow up development workflows and make people very angry.

I pay for, and regularly test, the most recent Claude code. It can be coaxed to produce working code, but the process remains about as fun as sifting through turds for nuggets of corn. And that's the goal; the entire point of Claude is to make the process of writing code feel like micromanaging an idiot savant, but cheaper. As Anthropic releases new versions, the further you get from puzzle solving and the closer you get to management. The reason I write code is to solve puzzles, and the details are important to coming up with a good solution.

That's three times the management and almost no reasoning about the details. I wouldn't trust the assessments that come out of the process, and I won't use software that was written that way unless someone pays me to.I think I'm probably going to get pushed out of this industry soon.

Also, every 200 line python program for manipulating subprocesses is waiting to be a 20 line shell script.Though: rc (https://shithub.us/cinap_lenrek/rc/HEAD/info.html) is a much nicer shell, simply because it doesn't re-expand variables.CC: @aburka@hachyderm.io
