@kmj what are pros and cons of running own server for a website for a hobby project?

@kmj will that setup with cdn work without sharing private key with cdn provider?

@kmj switching provider is easy with the current setup, it’s just a static web site anyway. Your approach requires more efforts.

Last night Organic Maps was removed from the Play Store without any warnings due to not meeting the requirements for the Family Program. Compared to Google Maps and other maps apps rated for 3+ age, there are no ads or in-app purchases in Organic Maps. We have asked for an appeal.

Due to "anti-features" introduced unilaterally by some people from FDroid community, it is not possible to find Organic Maps using the search in FDroid client without tinkering with its settings first: https://gitlab.com/fdroid/fdroiddata/-/issues/3347By default, it is possible to find apps with ads, with tracking, with non-free network services, dependencies and assets, apps without source code and with known vulnerabilities. But it is not possible to find Organic Maps, an open-source app without ads and tracking.

@nicd @ponda should passable barriers have appropriate OpenStreetMap.org tags?

Did you know that a long tap switches the full-screen mode on/off, and a single (normal) tap allows you to select anything on the map, including roads?

Some are asking: why does privacy-focused Organic Maps use GitHub? The largest open-source contributor network, familiar PR & issue workflow, Actions CI, broad integrations, zero infra to maintain, and easy onboarding/discoverability. This lets us focus on improving the app instead of running and maintaining servers. Development time is the most precious resource nowadays, and most of our users don't care where the code is hosted, but care about the app functionality and usability… Do you care?

@janvlug @Codeberg what issues, risks, or lock-in-related things do you see now? Migration is possible at any moment; git guarantees it out of the box.
