@jwildeboer one of the many disappointments of this tech period is how the crypto world became more/as dystopic as the dystopic financial system it supposedly aimed to replace. While there are currently rampant zero sum financial speculative games on the back of this collective menace, I don't think anybody dared issue a coronavirus bond or derivative (but would not be totally surprised)

I have a large collection of mp3's ripped from my collection of (hand picked and loved) CD's. It's collecting dust in an external drive for some years now as I won't prioritize spending the time to make it somehow accessible in a private 'cloud'In the meantime I must have spend multiples of that time clicking 'skip that ad' on youtube

@yarmo ha ha, love this quote. Ditching youtube is the lowest hanging fruit in my degoogling todo list :-)so far I was thinking of a rented vps + nextcloud (hoping to also solve the photo collection problem, access outside home network etc) but have been procrastinating to check the user friendliness (eg is there a streaming app?)have plenty of rpi's lying around, main unknown to check here is usability/security as a NAS accessible from the outside world

@Gina it's the god Ra. In most places he shows up regularly but there are also some God forsaken areas where each appearance is creating a mini panic https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ra

@fatboy also effective if public entities would stop encouraging people to "engage" in Facebook etcPeople don't seem to realize or be offended by government sites of various sorts having links to these platforms, providing free advertisement and implicit endorsement

@ndegruchy it's definitely not as polished but I try to use it when not a critical trip, both to get familiar and to help with usage numbersSometimes eg for walk/ bike paths it's actually better

@wizzwizz4 yeah, also the 'kill cat' can confuse some (they are individually but the sequence does not work)

@strypey @clacke it's an important debate but the arguments seem a bit dated. Some random thoughts about issues that need to be integrated* webassembly* angular/react type frameworks that are 'desktop in a browser' level of complexity* jQuery is used by 98% of websitesIMHO this goes beyond foss and touches the whole design of client-server computing over networks. You could imagine servers being pure data API endpoints and the GUI being handled locally

@jordan31 @almondwhite big adtech are totally ready for it. Complete monitoring and profiling is their bread and butter. What they are missing is the cash flow information. That's where the strategies around payments come into play. Also libra etc

@ataraxia937 the only 'investment' that is fully crisis proof is in relations with people. From your neighbors, to the local community, to your virtual friends over here :-)

@Gina maybe its wise to order in batches to try things out? especially with ergonomic issues a picture is never the whole story... I always try my keyboard live before ordering online 😅
