       @domodak Last time I checked it was possible to make a local copy of a Soundcloud track with youtube-dl.  (That's *technically* possible: I make no promises about it being compliant with the Ts&Cs.)

       @futurebird I think it might originate with the OECD publishing revised recommendations on the safety of children online in 2021.  That document, read honestly, is quite sensible, and goes big on protecting human rights, access to informational content, and equity of access.  But a selective reading of it by governments of an authoritarian persuasion could easily provide an excuse for the sort of legislation we're seeing.

       @futurebird TBF, one could say the same about secondary-market securities that nominally represent equity ownership of real businesses: almost all of the money to be made is from random fluctuations in price that have nothing whatsoever to do with the performance of the underlying business.
