We can be pleased with the media coverage of the #Arcturus variant.What is not described is that if it is highly pathogenic, we will not know until it is too late.There are four reasons for this:- data on #COVID is no longer collected globally,- pathogenicity is known weeks and sometimes months later (with data),- Arcturus is spreading faster, one of its descendants - #XBB-1-31 - could spread 5 times faster than the original Hu-1 strain.- ...1/2

Today, a scientist investigating #LongCOVID said that she understands that institutions declare the emergency is over, to protect the economy._This person is well aware of the actual risk, masks and take adapted measures._But how would the economy be negatively impacted by nonmedical interventions?[Like masking, promoting remote work, shorter working days to avoid crowded public transport shifts etc]This is political, governments are avoiding socialism at the cost of our health and lives.

@stux Since ActivityPub is opened and as @atomicpoet suspects that will make them lose their monopoly, I'm for the federation.However if Meta blocks other fediverse instances or make it hard for people to move to another instance, I'll block them personally (as a user, I must be able to do this).

In our blood, and especially in our marrow, there are cells responsible for making new blood cells, including immune system cells: these are haemapoietic stem cells (HSC).At birth, we have between 50,000 and 200,000 of these cells, which will be used throughout our lives to renew our blood, including immune system cells.The problem is that they express ACE2, a target of #SARSCoV2. If you read this publication, mainstream scientists assume that #COVID will only call on this pool of cells indirectly, via intermediate cells which, at some point, will not be sufficient to make new immune system cells.But there's a problem: there's no way of measuring the number of HSCs we have left.So scientists aren't publishing articles saying that this coronavirus is destroying our entire stock of HSCs. All we know is that it happens in a Petri dish.I'm not a specialist, I've only worked especially with stem cells for 10 years as a technician and 10 more years with immune system modulation. Research evaluation:I recently read a study on the impact factors of scientific journals.- Not a word about their inability to promote cutting-edge science, such as today's Nobel Prize for mRNA #COVID vaccines.- Not a word about the fact that the vast majority of these publications penalise non-G20 countries, through clientelism.- Not a word about the fact that technology manufacturers dictate the type of tools to be used in order to be published. I'm thinking of the field of biology and high throughput, which produces results the vast majority of which are either biased (due to a lack of validation) or uninterpretable.

If #COVID variants just evolved, that would be fine.The problem is that at some point, I would say since the appearance of #omicron, the evolution of #SARSCoV2 has accelerated dangerously.Dangerous in the sense that a highly pathogenic and still highly transmissible variant is likely to emerge during this pandemic. In this case, a variant only has to remain calm for a few days before transmission and then doing damages.This can happen very, very quickly.How would that be possible?By hacking the immune system. Especially in a context where variant do not compete (we are not here yet).

@evan @BeAware That's the point of federating editors, ten thousands of instances/domains is small when compared of what has been achieved by voluntary editors, elsewhere.So the impossible doesn't apply here, that's just a matter of organising moderation.Added later: I think that would be a minimum to conform to the GDPR, as a social media.
