       A couple of times each year, the police call me at home and ask whether I would like to donate to their fund.If I do donate, they will send me a sticker I can put on my car so that any officer thinking about pulling me over knows that I've paid into their fund. The more money you pay, the nicer the sticker is.I don't understand why this isn't illegal.

       @mrjunge I know the next-door neighbors on both sides of our house. We've had dinner-and-gaming nights with one of them.But this not common. I didn't know any of the neighbors at the last two houses I lived in.

       The Mastodon instance I use was down for about a full day. I was wondering if it might never come back, and I'd need to start over again with a new account.So, the first thing I did when the instance came back online is get an export of all my data, so I can easily reconstruct my account and refollow everybody if I do have to move someday. Preferences > Import and export > Data export
