Marsh in Winter. Today was a volunteer work day at #OxleyNatureCenter. We build a frame rig for the new stairs and managed to install all of the treads on a six inch riser height this morning. No photos, so one from last week. Spent yesterday and last night trying to contact all former students in #Türkiye and from #Syria to make sure they and their families were safe. I have about 20 alums in/from the region. All checked in safe, but many have friends and family in affected areas. Those in Türkiye are gathering food, clothing and supplies, to travel to the area to help those in need. Please keep those affected in your thoughts.

A gentle reminder from a retired old prof #ROP that #GlobalWarming is the greatest threat we face as a species. The #ClimateCrisis transcends all political and religious divisions, local, state and national boundaries. The is crisis affects everyone. We need a revolution in thought to attack the climate crisis will full force. One day, one fine day, I want to check the news and not see anything about the t-Rump monster, facism, Her emails …. Instead I want to read about a worldwide commitment to attack the #ClimateCrisis with all available resources.

#BirdsOfMastodon #BirdPhotography #NaturePhotography #OxleyNatureCenter #CarolinaWren Carolina Wrens are with us throughout the year, but cannot be ignored. this is a small bird with a huge voice and personality to match. They have one of the louder calls in the woods, and will stand toe-to-toe with invaders (humanoids) and sing their morning song. This bird was in one of 6 brush piles we created as habitat refuges when the prairie is mowed. As full disclosure, I was searching for the Green-tailed Towhee that had been reported the day before. Lots of Spotted Towhees, Wrens and White-throated Sparrows, but no green. #500mm slightly cropped.

This is the main creek that feeds into the wetlands. Visitors often see a variety of waterfowl, perching birds, beavers, otters, and deer from this vantage point. #200mm

A bit of nature to help with the flood of news. Heard a loud kerfuffle between Yellow-billed Cuckoos and Carolina Chickadees. Apparently the Cuckoos had tried to drop an egg in the Chickadee nest. Chickadees are small, cute and fierce, so they won the day defending the nest.#BirdsOfMastodon #NaturePhotography #YellowBilledCuckoo #500mm

Kudos to the Darktable development team for their work on the latest version. We are planning a trip, so I needed to update the version on my MacBooK Pro. I set aside an hour to deal with the update and any side issues since MacOS hates any outside software. Instead the process took about 1 minute to download, replace the old version and enter (copy-paste) one line of code from their site. Thank you for your continuous improvements to an already excellent system!#DarkTable

Please find a way to:Codify Roe vs. Wade and the right for every woman to make personal choices that are best for their health.Codify the John Lewis Voting Rights Act. This is the first step in backing away from voter discrimination, intimidation, gerrymandering, unlawful challenges and harassment. All citizens have the right to vote.Find a way to reverse Citizens United. One of the worst decision processes in history.Find a way to reverse the Originalist choke hold on the Courts and re-balance the courts with actual thinking jurists.Enforce rules of ethics on SCOTUS and impeach any jurist who has taken bribes in exchange for decisions (calling it what is is). One of out rare visitors at the Nature Sanctuary. At one point there were four of these wonderful birds hunting for bivalves. They have since moved on to more productive lakes.Completely unconcerned with humans, they frequented the shorelines of streams, marshes and lake.
