@rabble@vitriolix yeah, I poked around again the morning, and a lot of BTC, some idle chatter, and a dash of deep-state antisemitism. Granted, this was just the public-facing feed, so overall things could be better or worse. Good moderation is key to any good SM instance. It's part of why I killed my ~100 user diaspora* instance, and part of what killed my friends' ~10k instance there

@rolle to some extent non-essential things kinda get down when they get done. That, or I'll set a reminder for whatever time/day is appropriate. Assistant is what I usually use there.

@lowqualityfacts I try and keep my content (mostly) PG-13.If your kid is under 13 they shouldn't be on social media, I think legallyIf your snowflake can't handle the amount of swearing in a PG-13 movie these days, you probably need help more than they do

@dave@tchambers The Apollo dev has said Reddit wants $1.6m per month for API access. Several gay (mostly trans) subs are saying they'll have to shut down because their mod tools are being taken away and there's no way to onboard enough human mods. But yanno that IPO. Gotta make the numbers look good even if they're bullshit

@shantiniThe only answer I can really give is your instance admin needs to take reports seriously and talk to the instance of the offending actor. If they're not.willing to moderate they should block the instance and file it with fediblock. It's not perfect but it's a powerful tool that needs to be used sparingly but absolutely when necessary

@karanj@shantini Federated (not just Mastodon) admins, mods, and users, have an obligation to work together to maintain a safe space free of racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, etc. And to do this we all have to work together. If an admin is overwhelmed they need to bring in mods to help. If they won't moderate, they're breaking the fundamental covenant of the Fediverse. They're not hounding you, they're saying they're okay with n*zis on their server.

@jeremiah @karanj @shantini Ultimately, Us. They, and we, need to keep an eye out for, report and remove bad actors that make people feel unsafe here. There's no corporation nor algorithm to do that (on purpose). It's been a basic tenant here from day one, and it's a philosophy that's important to any successful social media

@jeremiah @karanj @shantini Well, it seems your instance (I looked) doesn't seem to care about the feelings of others, particularly those who are outnumbered and can't speak for themselves. So I see where you're coming from. You'll be surprised that the bulk of the Fediverse was coded by trans women, and take that very seriously. Good luck to you and your people.
