@ricci We are one dimensional projections from an alternate reality.

@ricci I used to get a lot of calls from the same mob, all using the same script. After each call I would work out what made them hang up, and try to avoid that for the next call. Eventually I had one on the line for about 30 minutes. His language when he discovered I was running Linux was, shall we say, "colourful".

@fuxoft Just checked with Firefox on Linux and got to the one indicated by the URL.The Ford doc seems to require access through Springer or ResearchGate. I have a feeling there might be some redirection being injected, possibly for someone's financial benefit. I can't imagine who would do that.

@fuxoft I think that what happens is that on Android your request is sent to some server (lets call it G) that checks the URL, sees that its a personal web page, and then goes off to find the document on some more commercial server. In this case it found a different document. It is probably a protection system to protect Android from malware.

@fuxoft The browser looks up the URL to get an IP address. It would have no way of knowing how that IP address is being handled, redirected, etc.

@fuxoft That sort of confirms that it is the combination of Chrome and Android that is getting the doc checked before trying to render it. Apparently it doesn't bother for a download which might be handled by a different app.

@ricci I thought it was well known that the "net" in networking was a contraction of the Russian "nyet".

@ricci Beware of the tricks a failing short term memory can play. Its best one is to erase everything you just thought such that you have not the faintest inkling that it ever happened. This can happen in a split second.Go to the fridge to get a yogurt, put it down while you get out a spoon. Go to the fridge and be very disappointed that there is no yogurt.I am wondering how many car accidents are caused by this. Look one way, see a car coming. Look the other and see that its clear, forget about the one you saw, and drive out into the scene of the accident.

@ricci I think there is something like that on one of my TODO lists. My idea was to use a graph (probably RDF). You can then group things together in hierarchies of classes, and also link them in whatever relationships seem appropriate.Visual navigation is probably the hardest part, especially when there are thousands of items.
