A thing I see a lot: people posting photos of their positive COVID tests that are not positive COVID tests at all.I think you can only blame people "not reading the instructions" for so long before the confusing interface you shipped actually becomes your problem rather than the user's.

Q: "How can we monetize man's predilection for yelling and hooting and hollering about things of exactly zero consequence?"A: "professional sports."

"Defendants are using their purported trademark rights to block WPE from the WordPress community as a means to extort monopolistic pricing," the amended complaint reads. "This conduct demonstrates Defendants' direct use of their trademarks to exclude competition and maintain a monopoly over the market, in violation of Section 2 of the Sherman Act, 15 U.S.C. ยง 2." WP Engine kicks their Automattic lawsuit up a notch with a claim that they're violating the Sherman Act.

"If you're tired of algorithms deciding what you see, Bluesky might be the relief you're looking for. Like Mastodon, Bluesky has no central algorithm feeding you posts based on some popularity contest. Instead, what you see comes from genuine engagement: posts gain visibility based on how many users like and "re-skeet" them (Bluesky's version of a retweet)." Tell me you don't know what an algorithm is without telling me you don't know what an algorithm is.

Every time I see people talk about how great the fediverse is because you're able to defederate from instances you don't like, I'm reminded of the time The Simpsons moved to a houseboat.

@sj_zero yeah, it was the users that came up with it, and the CEO hates it. They definitely know lol

Any opinions on what I might find to be the least-irritating non-JavaScript blog-style static site generator?I think I played with Jekyll at one point and eventually tableflipped because the documentation for actually building a theme with it was so terrible. I have lots of experience figuring out theme/template systems from scratch, but if I remember correctly, I kept running into it being convention-based, where you just had to name stuff right to get it to show up and it was maddening.Anyway, hit me with your recommendation for one if you've actually successfully built your own look and feel with it.

Preferably no dependency management tools involved, thanks. I don't want to fetch a ton of software packages published by randos who may or may not even be the person who wrote the software, as well as all the packages those people say I need. (Over and over to infinity.)

@sullybiker I once made a joke referencing how terrible AWS naming is and included one I made up alongside several real examples, and no one ever noticed. But then about 10 years later the next I made up became a real AWS service lol

As an American who doesn't understand the metric system, I assume that windspeed measured in "kts" is "kila-toots per second.""120 kts" is 120,000 times the velocity of one fart, right?

Howstuffworks.com says a fart travels at 7 miles per hour, so 120 kts would be 840,000 mph, which seems like it must not be correct. So "kts" must be 1/1000th of a fart, meaning 120 kts would be 0.84 miles per hour? That doesn't seem like a very useful unit of measure, tbh.

Posthumous Juice WRLD track about how he hates flying, takes so much codeine, and will never die hits pretty hard. (Because he died from hurriedly taking a shitload of codeine when the DEA pulled him off a plane to bust him for maybe having a shitload of codeine.)But then Eminem drops a verse where he's like "ain't trying to lecture, but you gotta be careful with drugs because you might die."

I heard this story that Juice would get in the studio and then do 3 totally different raps over one beat and tell the producer/engineer just to pick the one he likes best. I suspect we're going to be getting posthumous Juice WRLD albums forever, cramming new beats under raps meant for other ones.

"Someone has been flooding Bluesky with bots that use ChatGPT to respond to random posts, disagreeing with whatever the author says in a polite but annoying way." Yet another reason fedi is better. All of our annoying replyguys are actual humans!

First they came for the writers, but I said nothing. Then they came for the artists, but I said nothing. Then they came for the fast food dive-though workers, but I said nothing. Now that they're coming for the replyguys, though, you better believe I have a lot to say about it! #TheyTookOurJobs

Tempted to file a copyright claim against Matt Mullenweg's "Hello Dolly" WordPress plugin for reproducing the lyrics to Louie Armstrong's hit across 43% of the entire internet's servers. (It's installed by default.)
