FYI, if you forget how to update your #FreeBSD bootloader, remember that your search results will be flooded with out of date posts and posts. This thread is full of useful information:https://forums.freebsd.org/threads/update-of-the-bootcodes-for-a-gpt-scheme-x64-architecture.80163/Just about everything else that came up in top search results was anti-helpful.This specifically helped me out, after I used an out of date method that blew my bootloader away:-----------------------newfs_msdos -F16 /dev/nvd1p1mount -t msdosfs /dev/nvd1p1 /mntmkdir -p /mnt/efi/bootcp /boot/loader.efi /mnt/efi/boot/bootx64.efiumount /mnt----------------------It's one of those things that I don't do often enough for it to become habit.

I want this job to execute at 9:55 tonight.Normally, that would be simply:at 2155/bin/foo^DBut, I want this one to execute in tmux, so I can keep an easier eye on it.So, it's time to whip out the poor man's scheduler!sleep 47400; /bin/fooWith #UNIX, there is always more than one way.

I'm not gonna remember this to do the whole thing, but my contribution to #FreeSoftwareAdvent is xterm. No frills, no whistles, no transparency, no tabs. No needless ram consumption! It's just a fracking terminal emulator, and nothing else.

How in hell's name did @rocinante version 1.1.0.251222 get pushed to #FreeBSD ports? Did anyone bother to test CMD or CP? It is so ridiculously broken.Yes, I emailed some details to the maintainer, and even one fix.

I am always amused by the people who still cling to Twitter and Bluesky. They like to claim that the Fediverse is not user friendly. And maybe it could be a little easier to use. I don't have any issues with it, but I am a technically minded person who has been here a good long while. But I think those people are missing the bigger picture. The benefit of the Fediverse is that it isn't actively user hostile. The Fediverse isn't being flooded by ads, misinformation, AI slop, and general hostility. And it certainly isn't subject to mass data mining efforts by the powers that be.This isn't to say we don't have our own collection of assholes. The choices people make often bewilder me. Many would rather use the slightly easier tool, despite the fact that it lies to them, makes them angry, and harvests their every action for analysis and marketing efforts.

Ya'll arguing over shit like how "master" and "blacklist" are offensive terms in IT. Meanwhile, actually offensive people are passing extremely offensive legislation that strips people of their actual rights. At a certain point, you have to admit that me calling it a slave zone instead of a secondary zone is NOT the fucking problem.Stop dying on the wrong fucking hills.

Me: We are a nation founded on protest.Them: Yes, agreed.Me: Look at the Boston Tea party for example....Them: Well, but that was for a real purpose, no taxation without representation.Me: These modern protests have purpose, like, "no incarceration without due process."Them: Well, if these people didnt wanna be arrested, they shouldnt have commited crimes.

Anyone know of/like any Cyberdeck kits one could buy and drop a rPi into? I have the Pi. I don't feel like sourcing parts, and can't 3d print anything because I have no access to a printer.I just want a screen, a keyboard(with a d-pad would be nice), a battery, and some ports.

@0xabad1dea Such a cutie!I have a question. Is Odin aware of how massive and strong he is?My Dax puppy, while not being nearly the size of Odin is 55 pounds of pure muscle, and she is blissfully unaware of this fact. I swear, she thinks she is a ten pound lap dog.

@0xabad1dea Yeah, Dax can't play with small dogs because she doesn't know to tone it down. She is reactive with most humans, so we aren't going to find out how she is with children any time soon, if ever. But I strongly suspect she simply believes the entire world is one giant rugby scrum. Her dog trainer once described her in comparison to another dog in the class as a football(American) player. I had to disagree, football players wear padding.Obligatory Dax pic:
