@futurebird no that's true, it does absolutely rely on the person admitting and confronting what they've done. But they also have an incentive to do that because the alternative is hard time. I think sometimes people go into it thinking it's the easy way out (which it sort of isn't), but then they actually get changed.Still, I was mostly joking. I'm envisioning Trump knocking on every door in New York at least... 😂😂

@futurebird Are you drawing on any particular evidence for that suggestion? I imagine you are.Political advisors must have done studies on the efficacy of ad spend Vs campaigners. Intuitively I can believe that, especially in a nationwide race, advertising is more effective.But I can also believe that there's a certain amount of dogma in the political strategy world.I would love to believe that advertising doesn't work. But it seems a bit too good to be true.

@futurebird Ah yes good point.Here in the old world, #JeremyCorbyn has a similar message.After being expelled from #Labour, he's standing as an independent in Islington North (against his Labour replacement). His campaign strategy is all about building community engagement.Political power doesn't flow from party, it flows from people. If he can get people to council meetings, unions, protests, collective action, then #peoplePower will win, with or without him.Makes a lot of sense.

@futurebird Iceland is the only country who, after the 2008 crash, let banks go bust and jailed bankers.Parliament House, Alþingishúsið, is right next to the central square in Reykjavik - its wall & windows are metres from public space.The "kitchenware revolution" is now infamous: Protesters brought pots & pans to the square and made a racket right outside parliament.Icelanders held the rich to account because the literal distance between the people and the government was far smaller.

@kottke Oh look, it's unsurprisingly dominated by Scandinavian countries, northern #Europe and #Iceland.#Monaco at number 4 is the only southern #European county in the top 10. #Qatar is the first country south of Europe, at number 11.#Kuwait at 16 surprised me a bit, just above #France and the #USA at 18. TBH, 18 is really surprisingly high for the #US.The #UK is down at number 26, just below #Ireland.
