@futurebird how about the shell of an old Samsung BT120AT, with the CRT and radio stripped out and a mITX motherboard, 5600G CPU, and SFX power supply crammed inside the housing (along with an LCD behind the original clear plexi screen protector)?I use this to drive our living room TV. Jellyfin for movies/shows, Firefox for web browsing, and Steam for a few lightweight couch games. It's running Linux Mint, so it's a fully functional modern computer!

@SuperDicq @miiamustang ugh, modern smart TVs. Some *require* an internet connection now, even if you're only using wired inputs (ie, HDMI).A housemate connected the Hisense in our living room to WiFi to watch Netflix when we were gone one weekend. I went into the menu and told it to forget the WiFi network, and it just LIED to me about doing so (I could still see it chattering away via my router UI and PiHole). Had to change the WiFi password to get it disconnected again!

@ricci I remember reading one of these books. Forgot the title, but the premise was along the lines of "encounter with alien species that eats the brain of other sentient creatures whole and can draw on that creature's memories, but also we can cut the alien's spinal column such that the ingested brain gains control of the alien body" and it really made me think about sentience and sense of self and how easily those can be interrupted.Great reading for a 7ish year old lol

I was expecting a variation of this joke (ie, optical drive tray with a soda resting on it or whatever).He had just added one of these to his PC. 5.25" unit containing an actual cup holder AND a cigarette lighter.Nice subversion of the joke, although I'm not sure I'd trust that lighter...
