@lauraolin I have a difficult time imagining people ever doubted us. We are, objectively, a danger to ourselves and everything around us. So, either the machines have “learned” this, or (much more likely) we built that part of ourselves into them.

@tim @lauraolin When my kids want me to buy Dino-nuggets at the store for dinner… those really are what they claim to be.

@clive @ascentale @dx I *really* like e-bikes for transportation, car replacement, and utility needs. I think they’ll get more people on bikes and out of cars, and that they’re a key point for helping climate change. I (generally) loathe e-bikes out on regular mtb trails- the so-called “bro-ped” use case. Out here, they aren’t legal on the trails, and I don’t like seeing the speed those riders often rip ride around other trail users. #bikenite

@clive Indeed. Crime Pays But Botany Doesn’t has been on this for a bunch of years, and he and Al Scorch have been hosting a show called “Kill Your Lawn” where they help people rip out turf lawns and replace them with beautiful native plants. Worth a look.

@tk @cycling @mastobikes I’ll concede that there are applications where disc brakes-specifically hydraulic- are better than rim brakes. But those situations are, I think, wildly overstated, and usually far outside the use-cases of the vast majority of cyclists. #biketooter

@mhoye @tk @cycling @mastobikes I came up riding tandems with sketchy canti brakes in hills, and- it was ok? We adjusted our riding to braking power. On a road bike, I’ve never felt I needed discs. And I rode canti’s on mtbs all through the 80’s/90’s and into the early 00’s. They were fine. Until you were riding DH courses. Are discs better? Sure. Good hydro discs have immense amounts of power. Were rim brakes enough? Yeah. Most of the time. #BikeTooter

@v_perjorative @tk @cycling @mastobikes To be clear- I’m not saying discs are bad or whatever. I’m saying that most of the time, for many, many people, they’re overkill. Some people seem to feel that discs are necessary for a bike to be safe; that is very rarely the actual case. #BikeTooter

@kevincianfarini How cold are you talking?I use regular gloves to about 40-45f(“Regular” for me is Giro DND full fingered)Below that, wind block gloves to 25-30fBelow that, I used to like Pearl Izumi lobster gloves, but those don’t work for me these days (and I don’t often ride when it’s that cold). #BikeTooter

My love of bikes is such that I’m joyful about even weirdo stuff like this- which is also a bike I own. It’s an impeccably executed bad idea, and it rides better than it has any right to.#bikenite #biketooter

@ascentale @bobjonkman @bikenite I don’t keep computers on most of my bikes- they don’t bring out the best in me. Generally, I try to (vaguely) track how many hours I’ve put on a bike, as it matters for maintenance intervals (suspension forks, chain lube, etc etc etc). #bikenite
