@wertimer@clubcyberia.co MAN YOU CAN'T JUST DROP SUCH GOLD OUT OF NOWHERE! As soon I watched through the first couple of minutes, I realized I had to drop whatever I was planning to do this evening and watch it entirely! So lively, such energy, how he portrayed different characters in different voices, the war cry, the joy cry, the fun interruptions, the change of pace and rhythm... the terrible realization I will never be as cool as that guy, even remotely, and all I can hope for is at least a fraction of his authenticity for moments I want to tell a story. Now I wish we had something like that for Iliad... I remember long ago I watched a polyMATHY's video on the sound of the first Iliad's line, it's so cool! We need the whole thing as well!

Learning Latin Day 4 << Day 3I wanted to quickly finish all the Stabat Mater verses to move on, but I was too arrogant and foolish! It still had many interesting things to see and slow down for. But still now I am going to skip parts that bear no new stuff.Today first time I encountered a so-called "subjunctive", for example:Quis non posset contristariWho would not be able to be saddenedQuis est homo, qui non fleret, Matrem Christi si videretWho is the person who would not weep, if he had seen the mother of Christvideret and fleret seem alright, being produced from video and fleo, I take them as the general rule, ignoring the probably-irregular posset from possum (to be able) and note that -eret probably means "hypotheticality" of its stem and move on.Another scary thing is "passive infinite" (??), again inQuis non posset contristari -ari takes in "to be in the state of this word's stem", so trist- is sad, con- is a compounding prefix of bringing something in, and -ari is "to be in this thing", so it's... "to be insaddened"... And in the next line it has another one:Christi Matrem contemplariTo be contemplating the Mother of Christ.Remembering that Mater ends with -em because it's Accusative and Christus ends with -i because it's Genitive (check the Day 3 materials again). And - another case! Now, a completely new one:Vidit Iesum in tormentis[she] sees Jesus in tormentsIesus ends with -em because it's Accusative again, and tormentum ends with -is, because it's Ablative... Apparently it's a thing that indicates a state or a place to be in, like for pugna - a fight, and in fights would be in pugnis; in a torment would be in tormento. I don't want to bother with charts and tables again, so I just remember -is/-o as an indication of being present somewhere or in something. Then I return to Lingua Latina again, in Chapter IV I once again encounter a new case, for when someone is being addressed directly, attaching the example below with color-coding cases: red for nominative, green for accusative and blue for vocative. Then I am just trying to remember and process all the new words I have encountered so far, combining them into different cases and different relations to one another, also counting from 1 to 10.

Learning Latin Day 5 << Day 4Really, with every following verse Stabat Mater becomes more and more grammatically complex! This is great actually and I would recommend this hymn to anyone trying to read anything Latin for the first time! The first 2 verses are in present tense and only use Accusative and Genitive, then it slowly introduces Ablative and Imperative, it adds Infinite; but does not overwhelm you with throwing in everything at once.I am past the 11th verse, so it marks halfway, here it lets you practice some very useful constructions. Attaching as the screenshot 1. The verse in orange is so cool I am attaching it as an audio file from Vivaldi'sIn red color, more Ablative usage, which was first introduced in Day 3. To me the key markers so far to see it is either: 1. has "in" before it, implying a state or mood2. looks like Spanish gerund (leyendo; hablando)3. ends with -is for plural and is not an adjective (unlike tristis - sad)4. molds consorted nouns and pronouns to Accusative (you can see I underscored depended endings in red as well)[ardeat] in amando Christum Deum[that it may burn] in loving Christ the GodIn blue color, more Subjunctive, hypothetical actions. I tried with several random verbs I remember to verify that in 90% -eam / -eat / -eas / -eamus is exactly that, here it clearly shows:ut lugeam - that I may weep (hypothetically)ut ardeat - that it may burn (hypothetically)ut complaceam - that I may please (hypothetically)In green color, more Imperative. Sadly, I couldn't find a pattern good enough to generalize Imperative markers, so from now on I must pray to the all mighty and helpful context for hints :sadcat:Fac - make it, and twice used with Subjunctive, which lets us happily steal this construction and apply to whatever other verbs we already know. I don't know... Fac, ut librum studeam - Make it so I study the book; as a random example. it's a very simple template.Combining with the Subjunctive examples above, we receiveFac, ut tecum lugeam - Make it so I weep with youFac, ut ardeat cor meum* - Make it so my heart burns; etc.In purple color, Infinitive again. This one is still kind of hard for me to comprehend. Again, from Day 3 there was aposset contristariwould be able to in'sad themselves as in, would be able to get into the state of sadnessAnd here we have fac me sentiremake me in'felt (??) As in, make me into the state of feelingA bit messed up how it's a separate own conjugation, but at least by knowing the root you can understand what the verse is about even without knowing what's passive infinite. Guess I just need to keep taking input.

@epsi@akko.wtf momentum is crucial! I try to mold everything I care about into routine as soon as I notice even slight resolve and insipration do to that. Otherwise, I know, tomorrow morning it will all be gone, unless I set my mind on doing it by the schedule

Switching away from Firefox to Librewolf was too simple, took me literally less than 5 minutes. Shame on me for postponing that for too long... I remember I tried it a year ago and couldn't build the package and it seemed like a pain to figure out back then.Using it now, I see no difference! Easily imported all the bookmarks and installed Vimium I couldn't live without. Also there is no mozilla pocket and other cringe recent stuff they enabled in Firefox. I love my browserslop :soy2:

@meeper Ah, I see, I don't have accounts in browsers, so I don't sync anything, and I never heard of reader mode until your post, so I guess this is why it's been so smooth for meprivacy gainsIdk, firefox had privacy notes update 2 months ago and I found out about them only now, that sounded awkward enough for me to try to switch to something else. Had it failed, I would have stayed :pleromatanshrug:

Learning Latin Day 6 << Day 5I think Passive Infinite is my first main struggle after all. Cases and conjugations are not a burden since they have easy enough markers to notice and recognize by, but this thing is just hiding and mimicking. I understand that at this point what's truly stopping me is tiny vocabulary storage, so I can't recognize word roots and separate them from suffixes and endings to properly "deduct" tense and conjugations, which makes me fail from recognizing sto in stare. I already know what sto is from Day 2, and I would recognize stabat, because I already saw this form and know that -bat is past imperfect, but even this slight tiny change made me lost! Anyway, as always, more input and more work, it's only day 6 after all. As always, I continue in the latter half of Stabat Mater ingota. In red color, all Passive Infinite... The worst part is that pati (to have been suffered) has the same ending as all the nouns and pronouns on the line, consorted to Genitive, which makes you assume it's an adjective, or a participle, whatever, but also Accusatived, but no. The only way to know that is to know how to put suffer into Passive Invinite, which takes input and getting used to the language :sadcat: , no shortcuts in learning.tam dignati pro me patiso dignited to have been suffered(?) for meAs a way to excuse myself, patior seems to be really very damaged, because to say I suffer you do Ego patior, I would never have guessed the ending -or means first person! Compare with 💢ego video - i seeego fleo - i weepego studeo - i study Browsing further I see that there are "passive verbs with active meaning", I immediately understand that I do not want to give a damn, being at only Day 6, so I just know I will never forget patior and pati and move on.flere; condolere; stare are easier to get, especially with that from the previous Days I know stems of some. Contextually it's also deductible that there is some stateness implied:Fac me tecum pie flereMake, with you, dutifully weepfleo is I weep, therefore understanding the context I also see why it's to be in the state of weeping, like with the previous pati there to be in the state of suffering, have been suffered. Same with the rest.In blue color, a new discovery we encounter here: vixero - I shall have lived, a Future Perfect! Never seen before. Compare with vivo - I live. Randomly looking up other verbs I know I see there is no way to absolutely predict Future Perfect ending and the only way to see it is to know the stem... So let's hope Future Perfect is rare. I highlighted desidero - I desire in green to highlight that Future Perfect is very sly and not only mimics with normal healthy Present Tense, it RHYMES WITH IT...

@sun@shitposter.world same. this schizo social network and the schizo people I met here all turned me into a schizo myself and in such a way it also changed my life for the better. In fact, it was so positive that, in my grand escape from technology, I couldn't justify the "bads" of fediverse as a social media over all the enormous "goods" it had given to me. so I resigned to stay here forever, from a new account now though

Learning Latin Day 7 << Day 6Missed yesterday due to being sleepy as hell :sadcat:Now back on track! As always, I tried to continue with Stabat Mater, but it's gotten to hard for my level. Though, as I mentioned the last time, it's a great reading material for beginners! It's very simple in the beginning, gets gradually harder, then puts all the hardest concept it had introduced together, and then, in the final verses, does the "If you don't have any vocab and can't recognize stems, you are doomed", so you fail the boss and retreat from reading it further. The screenshot attached. I figured I have to pause this hymn as soon as I saw the blue and purple words. At first, I saw the line and assumed it's something likeMake it so that [to the] death door of Christ [something blahblah]I saw two -em endings and assumed it's nouns and adjectives consorted to Accusative. But I couldn't find the sentence verb anywhere, so I decided to check with wiktionary and turned out that portem is a SUBJUNCTIVE FORM OF PORTO, WHICH IS TO CARRY !!!So my Day 5 assumption that all subjunctive verbs end with -eam for the first person had proven wrong. And even worse, it means that they can be also impossible to distinguish from other word forms, like nouns and adjectives, which is clearly seen on the screenshot. The proper translation of the line wasGrant that I might bear the death of ChristSo portem is I would carry and mortem is just death in Accusative, absolutely unrelated. This happened the last time as well, so I realized I am wasting time now, not knowing basic words and not being able to grasp the basic 3 declensions Latin words have. But at least I got another useful construction, in red color, non sis could translate to may you not be, a poetic way to soften Imperative form. For example, to say "May you not be sad" you do non sis tristis (in epic voice, with a cringe pose).Saying that, I pause reading the hymn and return to Lingua Latina again. And lucky enough, the Chapter V teaches me Ablative, what I had already learned reading Stabat Mater a couple of days ago! Attaching useful reference materials for plural Accusative and Ablative. Also Imperative / IndicativeI almost don't know any French, but was happy to immediately recognize "a window" in fenestra . Truly, the more languages influenced by Latin you know, the easier it will be to Latinlarp like a chad
