please keep putting CW on posts that contain anything political or likely to create negative feelings. It was one if the nicest things when I first got here - being able to scroll through TL's relaxed, and not like the next thing I read could effectively feel like a punch in the stomach. You can think "it's dumb, if we stop doing it everyone will just give up" but that's wrong. People will likely just mute you. You might be losing followers and future connections needlessly

psa for today: if you're stumped about what to get someone as a present, I have ALWAYS had good luck giving binoculars. Men (especially men), women, children...each one immediately lifted them up, went straight to a window and was instantly having fun. Concerts, outdoors, the stars. So many possibilities. They come in all price ranges (and plastic and waterproof versions for the kids). It's all good. (Except if it's a creepy uncle type. Maybe choose something different for them)

just wanting to let new people know that I think it's important to at least go down your replies and "like" them. If you have a couple seconds you can even respond. Most of my "post count" is replies and boosts of others. People like that here. I'd even go so far as to say you really need to try to do it. People here won't be into someone just posting a couple things, leaving for 3 days and then coming back to say, "This place is dead." They don't want to be your silent, adoring audience 🙂

@masukomi @alltherum @thomasfuchs I'm an ex-twitter person and I hate them. I hope they never come come here. Not just for the abuse but because of the hundreds of pointless posts that'll clog the timeline with people just saying "😄" or "same" over someone else's thoughts, or, hundreds more that are just small additional thoughts that should only be replies.

@taylorlorenz I hate quote tweeting and hope it never arrives here. Im not here at all for journalist, especially of anerican news, so the threat to leave is irrelevant. Maybe the servers that the journalists are on can allow it for their members, as I can understand it can make sense in that context. For us civilians, though, it's just a way to clog the timeline with people adding 😄 or "same" to someone else's thoughts, or "look what this moron thinks, let's be jerks about it for a while."

@tonyutter @taylorlorenz coming to a place that has welcomed you with open arms and that works well, when you've been kicked off another place that's a damn cesspool, and saying "We won't stay unless you do what we want" is a level of arrogance I haven't missed here at all. I was enjoying mastodon a thousand times more than I ever enjoyed the other app, long before the journalists started coming. Their belief that this app "needs" them is simply incorrect.
