@Gnuxie and I are releasing a draft of a short book entitled "Software and Anarchy", which collects our views on software, applying an anarchist analysis in several contexts. You can grab a copy from http://lettingthedaysgoby.altervista.org/software-and-anarchy.2020-12-01.pdf or make your own from https://gitlab.com/cal-coop/software-anarchy/We are hopeful, at least, that this will be of use to anyone interested in #lisp, #socialecology, #gemini, #peerproduction, the #Fediverse, and #programming and #anarchism in general. A long-form summary follows.

@KennyGGAllin I'm not sure about the general case, but there is cl-alsaseq for the Linux ALSA sound system: https://github.com/defaultxr/cl-alsaseq

@KennyGGAllin Indeed, it won't work for Windows. I found some example programs at <http://www.ccarh.org/courses/253/lab/midiprog/> which use the Windows MIDI interface from C, so it is possible to use CFFI to write a nice interface for it, but FFI is tricky and debugging foreign code is never fun. On the bright side, it appears like there isn't too much to go wrong, as it doesn't require much manual memory management.

@KennyGGAllin But, of course, that might be a very annoying diversion that detracts from the rest of the project. I think #shirakumo on Freenode IRC may have further advice for doing multimedia stuff on Windows.

We already did the Anti-Capitalist Software License to death, but now there is "The People's Revolutionary License" <https://leftcopy.org/tprl-1.0/>.Not only do I have no faith in "the people" after studying the ACSL (see "Source materials" in Software and Anarchy), but they make the mistake that, because apparently larger businesses are "more exploitative", small businesses are apparently a-okay. Ouch.

I don't need late binding and live updating, cause advanced features of the type system, which I never use and only demonstrate in artificial examples, allow me to prove that my code is correct#PostLikeYouThinkACrabWouldSunday
